I know a bunch of people on here have done my 7900GS guide to overclocking, but now with the help of people from here and a ton of other people (to whom get credit all over the place on the guide and in the files) a new version is up and running that will help you get your 7900GS up to and running with a 7900GSX BIOS. The result is more performance and more stability, in most cases.

I know we have a lot of Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 owners on this forum, probably explains all the downloads. Thanks for posting this information stormlifter.

Everybody do this at your own risk of course.

Naturally :) Your own risk, don't do it at my risk, I wouldn't appreciate that.
Was just checking if people had problems, didn't want to force your users to go on my site to post their issues, just letting them know I'm right here in their forum if they need help. Also, if you all could be super awesome and disable your ad-blockers on my site that'd be great, cause I just have one Google Adsense advertisement on there, please visit my sponsors so I can keep the blazing fast downloads up.

    Thanks!

Yeah, with these great graphics cards in there with amazing potential really does make a person want some Dell. Nice to know they have resell value too. And just so you all know, I'm going to have this laptop for a while as I don't have the cash to keep switching, so if you get this laptop I'll be here to support it for at least another year. Pretty soon I might start up a CPU replacement guide, but that all depends on if I feel the CPU prices are low enough.

If you guys have other mods you'd like to see on my site, let me know on here.

maybe a "how to stick a 7900 gs into a 15.4 inch screen laptop" guide. They did it with a 7800gtx...so why not a 7900gs?

Well, if I had a 15.4 inch laptop I would be all about that, I'd love to have one. At some point I might get a friends to play with, if I do I'll post my findings. Might not be possible, but I don't know until I get a E1505 in my hands.

You have your first comment. :) Great article, I hope a lot of people will use it and that nothing will be 'cooked'.

I haven't heard of any cooked cards, but if I hear from someone who gets a cooked card I'll be sure to find a way to resurrect their card :)

Any other guides you guys would like to see in relation to the E1705?

I did the mod and got my dell e1705 to recognize my 7900gs go as a 7900gtx but why? I was stable before and actually better preformance with straight over clocked 7900gs go. I also had driver problems for the 7900gtx. What driver were you using? I got it back to the 7900gs go btw dont really know how I did it. I used my old iso from the oc of the 7900gs go and then used the gtx iso and it just sort of changed back to the 7900gs go.

Well some people have achieved higher performance ratings with the 7900GTX, they were able to reach higher mem/clock with the 7900GTX without getting artifacts and such.

I kept both on there so you guys could choose whichever worked for you.

As far as I've read the 7900GTX allows you to overclock higher and give you better stability at those really high clocks. But it does not open up any of the 7900GTX's additional shaders/pipelines. I believe those are laser-locked on the 7900GS, not just BIOS-locked. But I've seen some guys over on NBF get over 10k on 3dmark05 with the 7900GSX.

Yep notebook ftw, that's dead on....
Can't unlock the hardware limitations, but it does tend to give us better stability at higher clocks.
