hi, im about to buy a laptop right now.
but i have one question, i have 7900gt in my computer, and im still using it. (its working fine)
i wanna know the comparisons between 8400m gs and 7900gt.
whats better and why? are they the same?
EDIT: how about Radeon Mobility HD3450? what's the best card here?

I should say that the 7900 would be a lot better than the 8400. This is because the 8400 is a budget dedicated card, and even though it is one series newer (8000 v.s. 7000), the 7900 was a top end card in the 7000 series with only the 7950 being better.
So your desktop card is better than the 8400 for sure...
By how much in terms of benchmarks, I'm not sure though...
Hope this helps! -
Well desktop cards are always more powerful than their laptop counterparts, normally a desktop component can match if not best even up to one generation of newer laptop cards in terms of performance(due to other factors such as size and blah blah).
That being said, your 7900GT should still be noticeably faster than a 8400M GS, which is a low level dedicated GPU(the integrated ATI HD3200 can match its performance).
As for the HD3450, it should be on par with Nvidia's 8400M GT I believe so it should be somewhat faster then the 8400M GS, although not by a huge huge margin.
Both I'd say would be lower than a desktop 7900GT. you'd probably need a 8600M GT to match that card's performance.

Yeah, the 8600M GT would be about equivalent with the 7900, while the 8700M GT would be more powerful than the 7900. The 8700 is about the equivalent to the desktop 7950GS or GT...

I would agree with the above poster. My 9700m GT (basically a 8700 rebranded) is better than my desktop 7900m GT substancially.
7900gt on desktop VS 8400m gs on laptop
