Yes, it is the fastest single card, for notebooks. To answer you other question, if your question is regarding a 7900 GTX, then no, there won't be a huge difference in performance. However, if you are comparing it to the 7900 GS, then yes, there will be a difference. I am not sure if the difference is massive, but there certainly will be a difference at higher resolutions.

The 7900GS is still able to run every game currently on the market at high resolution, but the 7900GTX is definitely more powerful and will deliver a more steady framerate. So I second Zero's response: it depends to what card you're comparing the 7950.

7950GTX is a beast. 10.000 3dmark05 points if you configure it with 2 GB and a fast Core 2 Duo. The best card out there (for now). After 3 months nVidia and ATI will come up with new DX 10 cards, but without any doubt the 7950GTX is the fastest DX9 mobile card.

You can still run Vista, and you can still play games in Vista. But games that require DX10 will not play. They will probably have options to run in DX9 though. Crysis is a good example.

thus once games start to shift into the dx10 era it would render all laptops obsolete to playing games? i mean all current laptops

You could always play the older games when that happens.

It will be a while though before games become DX10 only.

That's the way PC gaming is. Myself, I am not too worried, as DX10 will take a while to become standard. That and I play sports titles more than FPS, for example, so I don't have a need for a top notch card as much

Anyway, thinking outside of the box, DX10 is Vista only, and I'm not in a hurry to upgrade. 1) My uni is gonna take it's time to upgrade to Vista, so my hands are tied. 2) imho DX10 is one of if not the only reason for Vsta for me. It would take a special game for me to hurry. I can easily see me being on this notebook next xmas

That or Seabass makes Pro Evo 7 DX10 only ("soccer" Americans) :p

Game Developers would be suicidal if they made DX 10-exclusive titles. They'd be excluding a very large portion of their gaming audience and would lose a lot of money by doing so. They will be making DX 10 games backwards-compatible, just like DX 9 games are playable on DX 8 and DX 7 cards are today. You just won't be able to enable the DX 10 settings/details/etc.

Most aren't going to ditch their current system just to get the new technology. Those people represent a very small percentage of the consumer base.
