How much is the m1710? You can look at xoticpc.com as they are having a great sale on their notebook with 9800M GTS with T8300 processor. Alternatively, you can also check ot P-7811 from Gateway (but there have been many reported quality issues with that laptop). Regardless, both have a 9800M GTS card which will outperform 7950gtx.

Forget about it, the m1710 is too expensive, and bulky, you can do much better.

Check out the Clevo Guide, and go for a Sager(Clevo) or the OCZ- ATI 3870*2(whitebook), 9800M GTS(NP 5793, $1400), or 9800M GTX(NP 5796) from Xotic PC or Powernotebooks, or others.

Gateway p-fx or the Toshiba X305 are better choices...or the Sager 5793 with a special offer.

I bought an m1710 in April with a 7950 GTX...I had been waiting for the Alienware m15x and after all the initial reports of problems, I decided in favor of the m1710...

I don't regret the choice one bit...a laptop is so much more than just the graphics chip (although that's the center of a gaming machine)...

It is bulky compared to an XPS 1530...but I don't find it overly bulky...in fact, I call it rugged, substantial...it doesn't feel like cheap plastic...

It has a good sound system for a laptop...front panel controls...that crazy LED lighting...everything except for an HDMI port...tons of USB ports...and mine has a Blu-Ray burner, 3 GB RAM (yep, I've lost a little bit of speed by not having matched RAM sticks), and a T7600G bios overclockable processor...all that for $2000 in April...I believe Dell has refurbished ones now with a 7950 GTX for < $1400...

I love the design of the machine...but as has been mentioned, the 7950 GTX is a dated card and it all depends on the price point...I have yet to find a newer laptop (8800m GTX) that has the features I want and is aesthetically pleasing to me...the Alienware was so close, but so many problems for the price...

And while I can't max out Crysis, the game looks great and is playable on my machine...I also can't max out Oblivion, World in Conflict, Silverfall (for some wierd reason) and a couple of others...but again, they still look great with some of the eye candy off (turning off dynamic lighting usually gets me the biggest fps boost with the least noticeable change in image quality...I guess I just don't notice where light sources are supposed to be and how their brightness is supposed to change)...

You can't go wrong with an m1710, in my opinion, as long as the price is under $1300-$1400...
