7950gtx temperature??

hello

I just received my new xps m1710 (7950gtx),that an awesome machine !!!!I write this message because i got a concern about my gpu temperature.And i need to compare.

I had download rivatuner,a prog for gpu temp monitoring.When i look at my idle temp,i am always betweeen 70-80c.Dell told me thats a normal temp for a high configuration like this...but iam not sure.During gameplay i at steady 72c.


Please could you send me some temperature of your system i would like to compare it.

 

It sounds like the GPU isn't underclocking when you are not playing games (and are currently running at full speed). Check out the power profiles (ATI has PowerPlay...I don't know the nVidia equivalent off hand) and look there for help. Usually the card will underclock and undervolt when you set those lower.

However, 72C for gaming isn't too bad. I usually peak at around 77C on my X1600 (but the laptop is pretty thin and only has one exhaust port).

 

72*C seems normal from what I can guess as well; the Go7950GTX is the most powerful mobile GPU so it can't exactly be expected to run cool. It has a TDP of 45W - that's 1/4 more than your Core 2 Duo CPU.

 

thats nothing, my 7800 Go GTX peeks at 94 C degrees. Since I live in Southern California, that can explain at least a 10 C degrees than others that have my videocard.

recently its been pretty cold in weather, so my temps have been peeking at 84 C degrees.

Did Rivatuner pick up your temps correctly, or did you have to offset an unusual value?

 

Sorry guys I'm not much of a poster, but I just recently got a notebook with the 7950gtx from Killernotebooks.com, you may want to check out his thread describing what he did to get the heat off the video card and out of the notebook case. I just sent my card back into him to get what he calls his version 3 heatsink mod. but even with ver.1 my system wasn't running hot maybe a bit warm.

The M1710 (I think) has dual heat-sinks to minimize the buildup of heat. Changing the heatsink/cooling solution would certainly void the warranty on the notebook, which would be a bad thing considering it is brand new.

I'd look at the Cooling Guide for some more help, as well as a few cheap and good tricks to use. But I cannot stress enough that 70-80C isn't bad for such as powerful notebook. Just make sure they do not go much higher.

 

i have a 7900gtx (256mb ram) of XXODD, but the hardware monitoring programm of RivaTuner gives me a core temperature of -142 grades Celcisus. And i couldn't find another programm which gives me correct temperatures. I will post a screenshot soon.

 

Yea, I had the same problem with RivaTuner, got a -143 Celcius reading and haven't had time to figure out why.
And I agree with not doing anything to void the warranty, coolermaster puts out a nice cooling stand for the 17 in. notebook.

And as far as Dell, if they're using the same cooling system with the 7950gtx that they used with the 7900gtx its gonna run a lot hotter. But due to the fact that they offered the 7950 for a while then took then off they probably realized they're gonna have a heat problem and modified their cooling system but I don't really know. Anyway its fast!

Both the Go7900GTX and the Go7950GTX have the same TDP of 45W, so that means that they can use the same cooling solution. I can't imagine that it would run that much hotter.

 

Ya thats not a bad temp for sucha beast of a card. Also im getting a dell 9400 with a 7900gs, is it about the same temp or is it much cooler then a 7950gtx?

 

7900GS is much cooler then the 7950GTX. Your card uses just 20 TDP, which means that it is much cooler. The 7900GS is famous for it's performance/watt ratio .
