There are 3 notably different versions of the 7970m. The Dell version only runs in Dell systems, possibly MSI. It will run on Clevo systems but the laptop turn off after a minute because it cannot read the thermal sensor. The "old" Clevo version will run on any system. Annoyingly using Enduro vs direct display output requires flashing the vbios between versions. The "new" Clevo version cannot run on HM or older series Clevo systems.

Depending on version, fan control will be broken as it cannot communicate with EC. Only clevo 7970M v1.2 and clevo 8970M work without issue in M17x R2

I did have the v1.1 clevo 7970m in my m17xr2 working fine up until earlier this year(had about 5 years of use) when it finally went cactus.

The soldering on the caps was atrocious on these 7970m clevo cards (looks to be done by hand).

Clevo with embedded ec non-enduro vbios FTW!

The clevo cards have a 2nd layer of hand soldered caps. They overclock significantly better.

Unfortunately, that solder of second layer seeps onto the pcb board causing malfunction especially over time when the solder dissipates due to excessive heat.
I did get some life after baking it but after the second time, it was time to let it go.
