Disclaimer: This thread is for 7970M benchmarks and discussions about those results. It is not to be used for comparisons.
The intent is to act as a place for 7970M owners to check how their cards are performing.

Please find Slick's guide to overclocking it here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-mobility-7970-m17x-r3-illustrated-guide.html

On that note here are my results at 975/1600:

    3dmark vantage:
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F2 score: P23728 3DMarks

    3dmark 11:
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F2 score: P6595 3DMarks

    Are these about right?

I just got p5740 marks in 3dmark11. I am not OC'ing the card and as of now am using the dell drivers they provided (although I am anxiously awaiting the official AMD drivers). My graphics score was p5493 and physics was p7538 (combined p5634). I am assuming this is about right, for the Dell drivers/no OC'ing? I really hope that AMD releases the official drivers soon (any ideas when??).

    Link:
    AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5740 3DMarks

It says my "pc appears to be working properly", but to be honest I have a hard time understanding what the "similar system scores" chart actually means? It says "Your score is right here, 130". does that mean 130 other similar systems scored the same?

Sorry for the noob questions...just making sure the new AW is running as was intended...

whoa guys that are some serious impressive scores. I hope you guys add games benchmarks as well (at least those games that have a built-in benchmark, such Dirt 3, as an example).

Congrats Meaker for your new toy :)

Guys why not put overvolting/overclocking guides in the OP? With msi afterburner is easy with just a few tweaks in the program cfg, but with overvolt im totally clueless with AMD cards.

Thanks to SVL7 for the vbios edits, you can overvolt the 7970m too!

For the 7970m, it is NOT recommended to go above 1.075v...stock is 1.05v

    My personal warning:

Speaking from experience, overclocking on stock voltage is fine. If you go too high on the stock voltage, the screen freezes or you bsod, so you reboot and set the clocks lower. No damage done. But if you don't know what you are doing, please do not overvolt. Overvolting too high can fry your card. Using 1.075v is the only way to get over 1ghz core stable on the 7970m. I can get up to 1ghz core on the stock voltage. Overvolt at your own risk

Well, actually the vbios edits are outdated... :)

Together with two friends (chmod1337 & geischtli) I created a VBIOS editor, so you can now freely edit your 7970m VBIOS :D

    Release info & instructions

    Enjoy.

Depends on the chip but for mine you would need 1.075v.

I have gone down to 900/1575 at 1v for 24/7 stability.

with your core at 900, i don't think you even need 1575 vram...you could drop that to 1400 and reduce the heat

yeah that's why I am interested if somebody wants to have the performance of a desktop 7870 on the laptop for everyday use not for benchmarks what will be the best combination between core and memory and why?

can you guys list the max clock settings that BF3 runs fluently on your systems? Doesn't matter the voltage but if different than stock, please do list it out also. I couldn't get past 960/1450 1.00V and increased voltage doesn't seems to help.

Although turning off MSAA helps the framerate alot. And my eyes are unable to notice the difference.

I plan on getting a Sager NP9170 with the 7970m. You helped make my decision alot easier.

EDIT: BTW was this done in High (1080) or Low (720) resolution?

ok, i've run the extreme bench but could not get a screen shot as it took my whole screen and printscreen was not working...

    score: 4500

What is interesting is that even if i push the clocks on the GPU higher, the score doesn't improve much...so that means that Final Fantasy is very CPU bound (which is consistent with many console ports)

But, the bench ran very smooth
