If you bought this GPU two years ago, safe to say you are still smiling. Still very competitive.

Not sure if I'm bottlenecked by my CPU but I can't turn as many graphics settings as I'd like onto high or x8. I hear the 680m is a much better overclocker.

Do most people here game with high overclocks?

SegaDe if your 7970m came with p170em not p370em, just post your vbios from 7970m, write freq of memory, core and voltage which you like to have.
    Or pm, or [email protected].

I think you will get about 900/950 on core. Memory 1400 or more, some of the people say that voltage does not affect on memory freq.
Let me know about the results and good luck.

Usually every day I used 1000/1500/1.050v for my radeon with 13.x drivers, but with 14.1 drivers it seems that the card works properly with 1000/1500/1.025. Today I'm going to perform a long test while playing, I will let you know if 1.025v is stable at the long and variable load.

edit/: It is not stable, so i go back to 1.050v.

How do you guys runs such high clocks with such low voltage! I can get maximum 965/1500 at 1.05V. I am jealous of those doing MUCH better at 1V LOL
Beyond 1.05V the card doesn't like it and will not be stable.

Guess I just have a lemon. Then again I read Dell cards don't OC well. Could be just that.

i'm running 970/1470 at stock 0.9v, anything higher and eventually i get a frozen screen when gaming. Do you think pushing the voltage up will help me push it further? my temps are good, max 80 degrees

Ok I set TDP to 100, voltage 1.1V and my max OC without any damm crashes is 1000/1450... 1050/1450 seems to have caused the whole computer to crash.. Its not due to overheating so don't know what the issue is.. anyways, I'm probably never going to push past 1000/1400 while playing..

Unstable overclock is the issue. You're gonna need more volts if you want to push the core further.

No, I don't think so... I think I have enough voltage.. Main issue that my PSU was overloaded according to Mr Fox so I need a 330W one.. Have 240W now..

Wouldn't it start drawing from battery if PSU is insufficient?

Would be a good idea to test power draw at the wall with a Kill-a-watt just to be sure that it's an issue of inadequate PSU.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get overvolting available for me. I have tried using the Afterburner/Trixx solution that seems to be working for everyone else but nothing. When I add in the command in the Afterburner shortcut, I don't get any prompt telling me I have enabled overvolting and asking me to reboot. All I got in the overclocking slider on Trixx. Any suggestions?

I didn't have my battery in it.. Anyways, now I know the power limit of setup so I won't go near that..

You have to flash a modded vBIOS. Save your vBIOS with GPU-Z and edit it with VBE7. 2 things you should do to increase performance. Firstly in the overdrive and powertune section, set the max tdp to 100. For the voltage setting, you have to set it to 1.1V under the powerplay performance section. I would read up about this before I do anything and again, do this at your own risk!

I wouldn't mind doing this since I have overclocked, flashed and overvolted my desktop GPUs plenty of times. But from whatever I read on this, the method worked with the stock bios for everyone else.

vsg28 try to use older versions of Afterburner, with the latest ver i was not able to do any changes on core or memory, after changing 2 commands lines in afterburner.cfg file. Other thing is that vbios with increased voltage value will allow you to get hihger oc, than stock vbios + oc by afterburner. Changing TDP to 100 will bring you noticeable benefits only with max OC, otherwise just don't change it, it is not worth it. (i know, my english ...)
I have to make tests with max cpu oc and gpu oc/ov/tdp on external display, I suspect the power supply unit(230w) does not allow GPU(7970m) to achieve maximum efficiency during benchmarks on built-in display.

What version do you use? Thanks! My card has a lot of potential since it is doing 900-925 MHz core stable in synthetic benchmarks at stock volts. I use Trixx to change the clocks, just don't have voltage settings yet.

Precision-X is based off Afterburner, so that isn't really a surprise.

Just wanted to show my progress in oc'ing my 7970m since i noticed that i have well above the highest score with my matchup. first try with 1025 core and 1570 mem i got 5578 and secound time 5580 wich apperently is the highest score with i7 3610QM and 7970m.

GPU max tep 89 degrees. usually around 86. the cooler is foiled
CPU max temp 72 + foiled

hi guys! I dont' know if the thread mentioned some game benchmark/performance here but I want to ask anyway.. I'd like to overclock the 7970m on my m17x r3 since I am not satisfied with its current performance on Watch Dogs and Crysis 3, but when I was about to download afterburner, it's version is already 3.0.1.. I wanna ask first if this version supports the 7970m dell oem.. and about the overclocking itself, how much should I increase to be rock stable or to get better performance on the games I mentioned above? I know it is a per die basis but I kinda want to get the idea as to what frequency range will I be playing around?

aside from this overclocking thing, I'd like to ask also if there's something wrong with my pc? I have this stuttering whenever I'm playing dota2, watchdogs and crisis.. I don't know if in dota2 it's just my network or the wifi signal, but the frame really stops for about 1-3 seconds and then continue, sometimes intermittent and sometimes rare, but notably, a game wont end without it happening at least once. on Crysis3, I was having that issue before but I toned down some of the graphic settings and it kinda lessened it a bit. about watchdogs.. it's horrible.. it lags so much, frame stops every 10 seconds for 2-3 seconds, it's almost unplayable. I've been toning down the graphics and with AA off as well, but still, is this game really that taxing?? can you give me your insights or fps on this games?

to have a background, I recently installed this 7970m since the 6990m that came with my m17xr3 died. together with the new gpu, I fresh install windows 8.1 and installed catalyst 14.6 beta only..i'm on unlocked A012 bios if that helps, too.

    Thanks!!
