    I updated to 12.10 a couple of days back and noticed that while plugged in even if the card is idling the memory frequency doesn't drop from 1200mhz. The core does drop to 300mhz and the pci xpress changes from 2.0 to 1.1 to save power. Because of the high memory clock though the temps remain at around 50C at idle which for me is a little high.

    If I disable powermizer then the clocks drop down to 300/150 which is what I have my card flashed to but under load the card won't clock up so I need to leave powermizer engaged.

    On battery the card runs at 300/300 idle and temps climb max 34C.

    Can anyone explain why the memory clock isn't dropping on idle when plugged in? Kinda annoying as everything else works perfectly. Is it simply driver related?

    I had exactly the same issue with Clevo 7970M in my MSI GX740. I stopped worrying about it since I started overclocking my GPU (I use MSI Afterburner and Unofficial method 2, so it disables PowerPlay anyway).

    Mind clarifying "unofficial method 2"?

    Cheers

    Pretty sure it's a bug with 12.10. Why aren't you on 12.11?

    Sorry, I should have made myself more clear on this. What I had in mind was:

    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2

    string in MSIAfterburner.cfg file.

    I had this issue with 12.8, 12.9, 12.10, 12.11beta 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 ;) so I'm pretty sure it's not driver related.

    Maybe something to do with power management options? Maybe go on power saver profile see if it still happens?

    I met this problem. I am pretty sure one month ago the memory clock is 150Mhz when it's idle. My laptop is clevo P370em with 7970m cf. I have reinstalled the OS and tried 12.8 12.10 12.11beta3 4 6 11 and this problem still exists. I am really confused about this...
