Yup, now all we need is for nvidia to drop the price a tad and then picking which gpu you want would be a no-brainer![]()

Alienware still takes +$350 over the 7970M for the 680M
They don`t even have listed the 670MX or the 675MX.

tbh If I was buying an AW I would buy 7970m myself because enduro would not be an issue.

I thought you wanted to get rid of the card even if enduro were fixed because it's still weaker than the 680m, right?
-
nope, i'm getting rid of 7970m because with enduro its performance is pretty bad and i dont have much faith in the upcoming hotfix,- as even with that unreleased driver in AnandTech's benchmarks @ 1080p average performance increase was of only 6.7%... which at 30fps is an extra 2fps... yay lol.
I've played around on my colleagues m17x with 7970m where despite him having a slower cpu his framerates are so much more stable... so with enduro disabled 7970m is decent value imho. -
I think you misunderstand the result. You will see big improvement at 1080p low/medium/high. But yes, 1080p at ultra you don't see much improvement since it's already full utilization in most case. Look at the utilization graph, you can't ask this card to work more than 100%.
-
i dont know if i did though, i will need to try to driver for myself - the games that I play have issues at ultra @ 1080p, some (like Crysis 2 / Batman AC / ARMA 2) have very unstable utilization and fps dips, so I would have expected more of an improvement.
true, but whilst with this hotfix in Batman AC utlization has increased to 97%, it's fps dropped by 22%. So either something in this hotfix has made Batman's rendering engine less efficient or AMD are simply screwing with the way utilization is calculated to give a false figure... or maybe Jarred's testing was flawed in some way. We will have to wait to get our hands on the fix to find out, but I still have a strong suspicion that there will be a significant disparity of performance between 7970m with enduro and 7970m without enduro.
Would be awesome if someone could do a review / comparison when the hotfix is released. -
I really want to try this driver too. From the test, Batman AC seem like a exception to me, since no other games show a drop in fps. Batman AC still gain some fps at medium/high.
To be honest, I don't care much about fps if I can lower my setting ( Not too low i hope
) to play anything at 60 fps. This is the MAJOR issue with the 7970M. For me, fixing the low/medium/high, low utilization, is something big.
If the 7970M still suck after the hotfix. We will be happy to be angry with you, once again. -

major performance increase for AMD GCN GPUs is in order: TechPowerUp, AnandTech, and HEXUS. desktop HD 7970GE now leads desktop GTX 680, so i guess you guys with AMD GPUs will also get a big performance increase with the 12.11 drivers (yes, i know 7970m is not based on desktop 7970, but all GCN GPUs are getting significant performance improvement with the new drivers). kudos to AMD.
-
7970m is based on 7870, and 7870 gets a 10% perfs boost and enduro fix. So changing to a 680m right now is not the best choice i think, unless enduro is not fixed.

I hate to be the party pooper but I bring bad news everyone.
AnandTech - AMD -
The 7970M actually performs slightly worse with the 12.11 driver than the hotfix driver Anandtech tested in the review.
BUT its a lot better than the driver you guys have been using for a while now so its a win anyway
