Will the 7970m work in my sager np8170? I have heard some people say that it does work and some say that it won't.

Has anyone tried this yet? (I know it won't work with the 120hz display)

    Nope.
Check my sig for the petition, we're trying to reach out Clevo to force them into releasing a bios update.

Might wanna sign that petition and not buy another Clevo. :D I think it will be hard for some people though since you only need 4 screws in the bottom to change parts. Although with their habit of crippling the BIOS, you pretty much are gonna be forced to buy a new Clevo every ~14 months.

Well... that just SUCKS! I absolutely hate Alienware, but I guess ill have to go with them if clevo doesn't get on the stick and FIX THIS GLARING ISSUE!!!

*Edit* Not that I have anything against Alienware users... I just don't like all of the bells and whistles.

*Edit again* Oh God, I just looked at the Alienware website and did some pricing on the m17x and can't stand that overpriced s**t!!! maybe its time for me to build a desktop.

Looked at the outlet? Found a discount code? Called them up and haggled?

Only ignorant people pay the ticket price for an alienware.

no one pays retail for alienware. The thing against alienware is that they charge ridiculous amounts on Ram and HDD/SSD options.

    SO:
The trick is to get the Alienware barebones, but with 1080p screen and powerful vid card. you get the rest aftermarket for a fraction.

I was about to buy a Sager, however, after discounts and once I factored in shipping costs, OS and the sager $75 pixel guarantee cost, my Alienware was actually cheaper than the Sager

If you really want to buy one, ask for help in the alienware forums. For example, just by ordering through a reseller, you get 10% off

Plus check current coupons. For example, there is a $200 coupon in Canada right now. There are many savings to be had

    Thanks Slick,

I'm in california. So you may well be correct that they'd not work for me. But I shall give them a closer look none the less.

My 2008 macbook pro is getting rather long in the tooth. And the software need that prompted the purchase of the mac is no more. So I am looking at all my options at this point. As many have stated here this new machine is to serve both my personal gaming habit and professionally including some cad work. I have had a long experience with dell servers, desktops and notebooks. So the AW is certainly in the running.

Again thanks for the reply. I've found your participation on these forums to be very informative.

    Thnx for the nice comments.

in the US, there may be more discounts to be had. You just have to keep your eyes open for coupons and go through a reseller. But there is another way. Call up Dell and get a US rep on the phone. Tell them what you want to pay and to get back to you when they can get that price. My daughter who is going to school on the west coast got an alienware decked out with a 26% discount. If you are going to order AW, i would definitely look at the Alienware forums and ask for advice ;)

These are the reason why I love USA. In central Europe "coupons" is a taboo word.
Call a dell rep and ask them for some sort of discount and they will laugh at you.
I'm looking at you dell Italy. If you can't get the share you want blame yourself.
I'll never understand why these things just work in USA but never in Europe, who knows why.

My motto is that you always ask...the worse that can happen is they say "NO"

We do business differently here. There is a lot of competition and it is recommended to play the competition against each other to get the best price.

There is absolutely no shame in using a coupon here. A coupon code for $200 on an Alienware? bring it on... :D

Yeah, I am going to wait and see if Clevo releases a new bios in the next couple of months. if not, I'll sell my machine and buy alienware.

The only thing I do not like about AW right now with all these updates on clevo is the swapping out the ODD for a HD caddy. If they could just offer that as an option it would be pretty sweet.

You can get generic caddys you fit your old faceplate to for next to nothing.
