Has anyone played around with the settings for Witcher2?
I get BSD on high. when I switch to a hybrid of medium/high it runs better.

Im averaging 45fps (battle scenes, large number of moving objects).

Just looking for an "optimal' setting that gives the best graphics/smoothest gameplay combo.

Satch, what are your computer specs and what driver version are you on?

I run Witcher2 @1080p with everything enabled (except uber sampling) at my gaming clocks of 950/1400 and it runs quite smooth

You may also want to disable depth of field and motion blur as that will significantly increase your frame rate...(these were disabled on my 6990m)

    @KingPinzero I will investigate this - thanks.
    @SlickDude80. Its a Clevo P170EM with 3720QM processor 16GB RAM.
I'm running at 900/1350 and it seems stable. Temps are 74deg.
I'm not sure what running at 950/1400 will do.... lets see :)

Also try to use 12.5 linked in Sick guide, those seems to perform better.

I ran the witcher on 950/1400 on Ultra with depth of field and motion blur turned off. I also turned off Vertical sync. Very smooth, around 50-60fps.
I've tried the 12.5, but it crashed and had to restore back to 12.6.

Am I doing something wrong? bad drivers?

First The Witcher 2 detects my settings as low, then the game runs at like 24fps when I change the settings to high. Even on low, the only way to get solid fps is by going down to 720. help?

    Sorry for being so vague.
    It's a Clevo P170.

I installed those drivers, but the game still detects as low.
It's funny because everything else runs smooth (Metro, SR3, Hard Reset etc...)

Got it to work. I had to go into 3d settings and do some tweaks.. Essentially forcing the game to see the 7970 as the default card.

Now I have a new issue "catalyst has stopped working". Simple fix is to re-install the drivers, yes. But it's still a pain. Oh the joys of new hardware.

UPdate: tried the 12.6 modded drivers - BSD.
Rolled back to 12.5 modded - OK
I think the Intel drivers have something to do with this....

the integrated graphics is indeed causing all the headaches. Hopefully someone will provide a way for you guys to disable the intel hd graphics so you don't have to deal with all this anymore...

I still get 3hrs battery life running on my 7970m doing light tasks

it really is up to the manufacturer to provide that option to you. I can kill the integrated graphics in my R3 in the bios. Once disabled, all AMD drivers will install without any issues. There aren't any conflicts with the intel vid card at that point.

i know with Clevos, they don't currently provide that option so there will be many "How to install driver" threads created

The tech at clevo told me to uninstall the intel 4000 graphics and start from scrtatch...however, the package still relies on there being intel graphics installed for the Catalyst to work...

Ive also got a P170EM and this thing is very very frustrating.

ive set everything to high performance, and my results are sketchy at best.
    (Drivers are 12.5 modded btw)

    3Dmark11 score AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P170EM score: P5755 3DMarks

Dirt 3 - Ultra 4xaa got me 40fps average on the benchmark, I believe meaker was getting 60ish at the same settings

Dirt Showdown - Ultra 4xaa I get 20fps average

    BF3 - Ultra 4xaa I get the standard 45ish fps

Skyrim - everything maxed around 45fps

Ive made sure that the 'switchable graphics' has them all set at high performance, and my laptop has all its power settings on high performance. After looking at the results on notebookcheck for the 7970m and i'm not getting anywhere near them in most games, yet my 3dmark11 score is in line with most other 7970m users.

Can you guys give me any advice as to why im getting such poor performance?

This whole Enduro stuff has completely turned me off this laptop and a fix cant come soon enough.

(ive also tried the 12.7 beta and they were no better)

I've got lower 3dmark11 scores with 12.7, but games seems more stable and some gained a few fps.

i spent my whole evening yesterday trying to config the driver settings, hoped that could bring me a higher performance, but it didn't. whats worse, the benchmark went lower and even after i got it to the defult settings i still couldnt bring it back :(

however, 7970s gaming proformance is still spectaculous! never worry about it, its like a desktop GTX480

I think you are at stock clevo drivers because it says 8.951.6.0 on your spec sheet. here is what i got with 12.7 driver on stock clocks.
    AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P15xEMx score: P5817 3DMarks

you sure you installed your drivers right? 12.7 driver should say 8.981.2.0 on the GPU spec sheet.

Yep agreed, for the sake of maybe $1500 difference to get the same specs in AW. Unfortunately, only had $3000 to spend so settled for a Clevo. the biggest disappointment is the integrated Intel drivers - you can't turn them off.

Where are you trying to order from? There is no way an Alienware is running $1500 more than your Clevo. I was close to purchasing a Clevo (Malibal) back in March with the specs in my sig (580M instead of the 7970M), but the Alienware actually saved me $300, plus I was able to get hooked up with a 7970M upgrade for free.

My Clevo came to $2700. then I installed my own 750GB 7200 RPM seagate drive for $150
the Alienware equivalent came to $4450.
Still, if I had the extra $1500 I would have gone with the AW

Checkout alienware resellers such as powernotebooks and xoticpc, I beleive both ship internationally and charge about the same as US pricing.

Edit: I forgot to meantion HIDevolution and btotech... I'm sure there is even more alienware resellers but thats all the ones that I know of.

Yeah I had a look at powernotebooks and it came in at $3013
The only problem really is local support in Australia. All the warranties have some form of either "return to base" or "pickup/delivery" component.
International shipping rates for a <5KG item are around $200-250, so everytime I would have to shell out this amount...not worth it, from both a cost perspective and the risk of loss/damage perpsective (add on $200 for insurance + excess)
