@sformasforma: hmm ur physics score seems a bit low, check out mine (same cpu):

maybe u should try premas modded bios in order to enable better turbo boost?

I remember searching your post and read some kind of review to PREMA 2860Bios done by you and the overall result hasn't very impressive (to much heat) - for what i can remember.
Either way i will send you a pm regarding this subject - maybe you could help me out to obtain Prema 2860bios. -
Guys, I am a total newb to benchmarking and overclocking. I followed Slickdude's great instructions to install MSI Afterburner and OC my 7970m. I am on the official Dell drivers.
On stock I get this (P5851):
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5851 3DMarks
I bumped up to I believe was 950/1425. Can you tell from results? I reset it and then got distracted and when I came back I could not remember exact settings. Anyway, I got this (P6413):
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6413 3DMarks
Hopefully the links work right. I tried at 1000/1500 but it froze up...is that too high on stock voltage? -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
see if you can get 980/1500
depends on card but normally that is too high for stock voltage. -
In case you guys haven't known, a new driver has been released earlier today, Click here for more details:

any results with it long?
-
for now I only play Sleeping Dogs and TF2. I didn't see any improvement but there is no issue either, yet?
-

i haven't touched my R4 because i am selling it so sorry no help.

Guys, I did a slight OC on both my 3720QM CPU and 7970M GPU, getting a score of ~6500 on 3DMark 11. Is that a decent OC? System is mighty stable, by the way!

what are clocks?
-
Hello, I just updated my Alienware M17X R4 from 12.7b (w/ Skyrim Fix) to 12.8. For some reason, my Skyrim game performance decreased a lot. From a 55-60 FPS (Stock Clocks) to 45-55 FPS to 37-45 FPS (@960/1430)
I got disappointed when I saw the decrease in performance. How do I revert back to the old driver?
Thanks in advance!
P.S That's Skyrim on Ultra by the way.
EDIT 2: Oh, silly me. I forgot that recording videos in MSi AfterBurner decreases the performance. When I stopped recording my Skyrim was 60 FPS constant (Stock Clocks). Amazing driver update so far! Also tried it on Crysis 2 (Ultra, DX11 Enabled, Maxed out) (@960/1430) and my Alienware was killing it! Running at 35-45 FPS. Amazing for a single card!
This card is a beast! -

What software are you guys using to mod the vbios on these cards?
I know mine needs more voltage to get to 1ghz. -
/cry, wish we poor Clevos could disable Enduro to enjoy our beasts how u can do...... -
You guys are lucky, mine is unstable at stock. Bump it up at all, even 10mhz and it artifacts.
Gotta call Dell. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
-
-
have u tried different drivers? also, when do those artifacts occur? in 2D or 3D mode? (@idle or load clocks?)
-
Any ideas on how to remedy that situation? If I remember I had a situation like that on the desktop, but I can't remember what needed to be done. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
is it crashing? or clocks going up and down? going up and down is normal. it is adjusting clocks as needed for more speed
-
-
The artifacts and tearing on the desktop I found was due to PowerPlay. Disabling it while you overclock should eliminate the issue, it worked for me as well as many other users on the board. You need to disable PowerPlay in the settings for MSI Afterburner and not in CCC, though. Disabling PowerPlay in CCC will fix your clocks at 2D rates.
In the configuration file for MSI Afterburner, change the value for "UnofficialOverclockingMode" to 2 instead of 1 to disable PowerPlay and the flickering/tearing should stop. Keep in mind that your clocks are going to run at a constant value to whatever you set in Afterburner, and to have your card automatically clock back down in 2D applications you'll need to reboot or enable PowerPlay again in the config file and reset your clocks. -

Maybe already answered but.. can we (clevo owners) flash this modded vbios to our 7970m card in order to achieve some serious overclocking? I myself have problems with that because of the 1.00V
-
those are dell vbios files for alienware users. wouldnt risk flashing those on a clevo card, could very well brick ur card. id rather just dump ur vbios with gpu-z and send svl7 here on nbr a polite request for modding it with higher voltages

Also the modded clevo versions are here:

interesting,good to know
still,i wouldnt flash a different manufacturer vbios just on gut feeling and sheer luck
dont have any money to waste

It's not possible to flash the vBIOS on a CLEVO EM machine (only on HM) and all the edited CLEVO 7970M BIOSes are enduro disabled ones.

enabled you mean ?

u are aware that 3dmark11 just favors kepler based cards right? in games the performance of 7970m and 680m is pretty much exactly the same, as theyre trading blows. one game favors team red,the other goes green instead
so dont put too much work into the 11 score. besides, ur OC is pretty darn good already and better than most other amd cards ive seen so far! be happy!

Stock clocks in the chart
-
hi guys!!yesterday i installed mine 7970m!!it works like charm in my HM laptop!!
the question is why the overdrive settings are missing from ccc?also my gpu voltage is 0.975 at stock.is it possible to make it 1.05v?i dont want to overvolt my card with 1.075v or 1.1v.thx!!
-
hey buddy,as mentioned before the 1.075v ov has been reported to be rock stable by all users having tried it so far
only the 1.1v ov has been known to cause stability issues in some instances. so if nothing else works in getting ur stock voltage to 1.05v id just go ahead and try the ov vbios

i just flashed the overvolted vbios(1.075) and when my card is in 3d mode its still 0.975v.what is going wrong???pls help!!!

How you get 42x multipiler and MAX TDP 55 W on 3720qm ? -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
isn't the 3720QM allowed to play with a few multipliers?
-
So what's the current 3dmark vantage record for a single 7970m? The best I've ever reached was around 26xxx GPU when I still had my 7970m.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
remember vantage and 3dmark are bias of 680 cards...interesting how that all worked out. Never really realized such a huge difference in cards like that
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
well just opened my R4 since i couldn't sell it and install msi afterburner but it doesn't go high enough....what do you guys use? also how do you overvolt it?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Msi afterburner should let you go higher if you edit the config file to enable unofficial OC, set it to 2 for best results.
You can flash a modded vbios for extra voltage or you can do it with a softmod:
http://www.overclock.net/t/941964/afterburner-5870-2d-clocks#post_12400515
Similar to that link, but look for voltage in the profile xml file.
7970m...how high can it overclock?
