I'm looking to get a Dell Inspiron 1420.

    It will have a
    Core 2 Duo processor T5250 (1.5GHz) 2mb cache 667mhz FSB
    1GB DDR2 RAM
    Go 8400M GS
    14.1" 1280x800

Will this notebook run BF2 and Company of Heroes on medium settings? If anyonw has the same graphics card, please report back on how it plays on the above mentioned games. Thank you.

I think you'd be able to play BF2 on medium settings @ 1280x800 without much of a problem using the 8400M GS. I'm not sure about CoH though as I've never played it!

    No you won't, since BF2 doesn't support widescreen. :p

There's a widescreen hack which crops the top and bottom as Kdawgca mentioned.

Please report back how BF2 @ 1280x800 Widescreen hack and Company of Heroes performs!

Thank you very much! :) :)

Medium settings get me 35ish FPS on Company of Heroes.

    Thanks for your reply.

Do you experience any lag at all when there's a lot going on-screen in Company of Heroes?

    Hey,
Reading through this i was wondering if the 8400 would be able to run STALKER and Supreme Commander?

Also would i be able to overclock this machine to about 3500 in 3DMark would u say?

Well if people are saying that a 8400M GS would run at about 35fps on Company of Heroes (med-settings), then it would run slower on Supreme Commander as it's an even more high demanding game.

    3500 in 3dmark 05, possibly, in 3dmark06, not a chance.

STALKER in DX8 mode decently (don't expect it to look good), but I doubt Supreme Commander very well.

just get the correct drivers of the graphics card and i think you will play almost all the games ind a mid resolution... of course it all depends of the game demand

The thing is, the Dell 1420 can only be configured to either the Intel X3100 or the 8400GS. I wish it could be configured to the 8600GT because I am mainly looking for the portability of a 14 inch screen. :(
