    Card: 8400M GS - 256MB
    CPU: TL60 2Ghz
    MEM: 3Gb DDR
    Vista 32x

Ok so ive tried some drivers here with Vista themes disabled:

    3dmark06 best:

    177.73 = 1703 score

I have tried other drivers no lower than the 175.xx and i get around 1624 score.

Now this is all not overclocked or anything standard out of the box as i only bought it last week. I read a post at another forum saying:

" Before any clocking at all i'm getting over 1500 in 3Dmark06 which i think is pretty respectable but have seen people claiming well into 1800's."

    His setup was:

    HP Pavilion DV9500
    AMD Turion X2 - TL 58 - 1900mhz
    nVidia Geforce 8400M GS - 128mb
    2GB 667mhz RAM

Now im i wrong in thinking i am getting really bad perforamce out of this machine?

Should i try the very old drivers hes using or what drivers are the best here? Im thinkin of overclocking but if he has got these marks shouldnt i be getting these on default?

Any if i run XP how much in game performance will i gain by dioing this?

    Thanks guys in advance.

But you got 1703 marks  THAT'S BETTER....

Performance looks about right, xp won't bring any performance benefits as long as you have vista sp1.

Sorry im stupid i was supose to add:

"Achieved total average of after this 30min run of 2017 3D Marks"

Should i drop drivers to be able to overclock and would i get better mark than this if i overclock?

I understand about heat etc etc. Done loads of O/C with pc's but never laptops.

yes agreed but, if i could overclock abiut more would be better ;)

Playing UT3 800x600 low everything its playable but abit jerky i average 30 - 50fps flickering all the time. An extra 5-10fps would be great to stableise this.

Different drivers would be the first thing to try! 174.74 and 169.09 will give you a good idea whether you can get better performance out of your card. The best advice i can give you is to ignore 3Dmark scores, it can be usefull to gauge the effectiveness of an overclock or just to see how a new driver benchmarks but that's really all.
Be sure to monitor temps with a program like HWmonitor if you want to oc your card.

ok i will give them drivers a test see if my 3dmark goes up/down and also see how my performance in ut3 goes. Am still yet to tweak the actual game ini files i just want o be able toplay ut3 at good frame rate 30-50 isnt bad but i still get jerky bits here and there. Ad rather get a constant 45FPS than a flicker from 30 - 50 somtimes i hit 60.

177.73 is only drivers that give me anywhere close to 1700 3d marks. Shame i cant overclock with these drivers :(

169.04 is the last OC'able drivers for HP's

    1700pts is fine.
