I finally broke the 4000 barrier on 3Dmark06!

Its not on 1280x1024 so its nothing to be REALLY proud of but hey , most people test on 1280x800 (which is our native) and i finally reached 4000!

    here is proof

My card was overclocked to 700/780 to reach 4066 points in 3Dmark06 with the 182.06 driver

My gaming OC is 600/730 so plz dont start saying that my card will burst into flames because that profile is only when i REALLY need it (ie very demanding games).

Average temperature after the test was max: 68C.

I do not operate on those clocks on a regular basis

    Nope. It doesnt.

I've gamed for several hours on those clocks on demanding games such as Crysis, GRID...etc.

Ive noted these clocks down for a while and ive used them once in a while. ATITOOL doesn't show artifacts after a long while of testing.

    They are stable.

you got it to the same speeds as my oced 8600m gs.
i scored 1633/1504/1500. so you actually beat me with a better cpu.

Wow im impressed! I noticed that you run your GPU runs at 85C? isnt that a bit hot?

Mine almost never goes past 72~73C

edit: and no i dont think i beat u because you ran your test at 1280x1024 resolution vs mine which was 1280x800.

    Your still champ :p

no you did beat me. i got 3.6k when benching at 1280*1024. got 3.9k at 1280*800.
85c is the max i have seen, when i played bioshock. 3dmark06 will stress it to about 82-83c. yeah it's a bit hot, but still in the safe zone i think. or i hope at least.

Thanks! My laptop is the Sony Vaio VGN FZ290 .. such quality material :p

And by the way is that the 8600M GT DDR2 or DDR3?

Ahhh ok. Yeah i think that 80C is still safe, just a bit hot but it shouldnt really matter.

Ive only seen my GPU reach that temperature ONCE and that was when i was using it on my cousins bed...blocked airflow completely lol

the 8400m GT doesnt have a crippled bus like the other 8400 series, 128 bit compared to 64, its more midrange then low end, and very similar to the 8600m gs, so that is not too suprising.

Then again i have a Zalman NC1000 cooling pad :)

that reduces the average heat by a couple degrees Celsius

Try the 182.06 drivers...i got a 100points boost from them. Which helped me achieve my goal even faster

yes. the only difference between 8400m gt and 8600m gs is the clock speed i believe. nvidia really need to stop spamming cards.

I think my ThinkPad R60 with NVS 140m might be able to beat that.

Hey miscolobo, at what resolution and settings do you play Crysis decently? With my stock 7600, I can run it at 1024x768 at all medium in XP.

I honestly have no idea :s ive uninstalled Crysis a lonnnnggg time ago.

I can re-install the demo and let you know sometime soon tho

and from what i know i think that the Gefore 7600 is a bit faster than the 8400M GT.

Also i dont have XP and i hear it gives a 5fps boost or something like that.

i just tried crysis demo. got average 21.5fps in the benchmark run, all medium dx9 1024*768 :)
edit: screenies, low shadows/physics, rest are at medium.
some light sources can bring down my frame rate to teens, but it stays above 20 most of the time, can go up to 40 if i stared at a stone wall.
edit2: oced at 660/1450/900, max temp was 85.

there you go. looks like i have to increase my overclock by about 200% to play it smoothly at this setting. assuming the games scales well with clock speeds
