I was just wondering how good the 256mb 8400M GS is in the HP dv6700 laptops.
I am looking to replace my current 4 year old HP zt3000 (with Radeon mobility 9200 video) and I was wondering how much better is the 8400GS than the mobility 9200??

well, my 8400m gs can play most games at 1024x768 medium-ish settings, and still have above 30-40 fps. although the only game i play is cs:s @ 1280x800 all low to achieve 100 fps :)

8400GS will be a significant step up from a mobility 9200. It will allow you to play new games at low settings and low resolution (1024x768). Older games such as Battlefield 2 will play easily on med/high settings at higher resolutions (1440x900).

Thanks, I fogot to add that I want to also connect the laptop to my Sony KDL-40V4100 LCD TV (1920 x 1080).

I'm not looking at playing the most recent games. In fact it will be used for slightly older games (Myst series and the like) but will also be used for streaming movies from netflix etc.

Even if I output the Desktop at 1920 x 1080 resolution I should still be able to play games at a lower resolution right?

I just came across another laptop that has the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 512mb GDDR3.

Is this card more powerfull than the 8400M GS?

yeah the HD2600 with 512mb GDDR3 is much more pwerful than the NV8400GS with 256mb GDDR3.

Please take some time to read the stickies before you post; the GPU Guide should answer most of your questions. If not, post a reply to that thread. Thanks.
