I play X-Plane and do some SolidWorks rendering on my Dell M2300 but need to give it back to my former employer.

I need to buy a new laptop for home and would like to make sure it will run X-Plane (OpenGL) and support some basic SolidWorks stuff.

Will the 8400M-GS perform the same as the FX 360M?

Will the 8600GT be a lot better than an FX 360M doing X-Plane and SolidWorks?

My dad had SolidWorks on my desktop with an x850 XT Platinum Edition (pretty beefy gaming card for the time) and it ran great for rendering things. So I think the 8600m GT will do fine for SolidWorks. If you plan on doing some gaming the 8600m GT will do a lot better than the FX 360M ... but if your main focus is to do work on it and you really aren't going to be playing any games then go for the FX 360M.
