This version only comes with 64mb of dedicated memory...I assume that would gimp a card as powerful as the 8400m GS a fair amount? :(

I don't believe that the 8400M GS is powerful. From what I've read, it's better than the go7400, but worse than the go7600 (I read it in a thread some time ago, so I don't have any facts).

If its more powerful than the 7400 and less than the 7600.. it should perform as well as a go 6600.

IMO 8400 = dx10 version of 7400 (and a little bit better obviously), and 8600 = dx10 version 7600 (and a little bit better again)

Are you sure the dv2500t is coming with an 8400M GS? I'd expect HP to put an 8400M G in it. "64 MB" dedicated also points to the 8400M G.

It's better than what they were offering in the dv2000t, so it's a nice upgrade from that in any event. It should be a pretty comfortable card for a 14" laptop. Memory isn't the deciding factor in a graphics card in any case, as the core has more to do with power than memory. While 64MB is low for these days, I don't think it will make it a terrible card; it just isn't a performance card, so don't go into it thinking you're going to get really high performance.

It is the GS, I configured one yesterday. I believe it has turbo memory or something to extend the amount of ram it has, and from what I've heard, that GPU memory sharing works well. So I don't think that's an issue. Like the last guy said, the 8400 GS just isn't a performance card so don't expect amazing framerates, though you will be able to play quite a few games on it.

You should be fine for those games in high settings. I'd expect you'd get around 20-30FPS in HL2 and CS at the native resolution of the monitor (1280 x 800). If you turn AA on, then probably between 15-25 depending on where you are in the game (outside it'll run worse than inside, for example).

Warcraft 3 is old, and can be run quite well on intel extreme graphic, so a 8400M will max it out at any resolution.

I get 60 fps 1280 800 with an nvidia geforce 7600 go, im pretty sure that the 8400m GS is much better, so i would guess youd get more than 30 fps in source or Half Life 2 :p

The 8400mGS is worse than the Go7600, by a decent amount. The 8400mGT is the one that rivals the Go7600.

Also, if the 8400mGS is anything like the Go7400, then it will be fine with 64mb of dedicated VRAM. The Go7400 was one of the best at using shared VRAM, you couldn't tell any difference between the 64mb and the 128mb dedicated versions.

8400M GS is comparable to the X1400. If you plan on playing a game like Halo 2 or Command and Conquer, you will only be able to play them at about medium settings tops. 8600M GT on the other hand is a totally different story.

Is the 8400m GS good enough to run Halo at...medium/max settings?
Does anyone have the fps for Halo with the 8400m GS?

    Thanks
