    Hi guys,
I just wanted to ask if it is safe to buy an hp laptop equipped with a NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS cuz i read on some forums that this card including some others like 8600 r faulty. Are there still problems in these chips or has it been rectified cuz i m thinking of buy HP DV6850EE and it has got this card. Here r the specifications of this laptop: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/me/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3672909-3722364.html
I also wanted to ask if this lappie will be able to handle cod4 and other latest games at low/mid settings.

    Thanks in advance,

    aimxhead

Pretty much anything from GeForce 7 up is affected by the solder bump problem, and the issue will not be over for a while. Can you get a better deal on the DV5T? It has a much better video card for gaming (if you get the 9600M GT), and it is built on the newest Intel Centrino 2 platform. Otherwise, you will most likely be on low settings for most games.

They are; 82, 84, 92, 94 cores are affected (if not more, as nVidia hasn't said a whole lot). OP: Get an ATI card if you're that worried.

Thanks for the response everyone but i cant find any hp laptop within my budget with something better than 8400m gso. I m lookin for a laptop with ati mobility radeon hd 3450 but if i dont find any so should i go with 8400m gso cuz i have no other option. Is it imminent that this card would fail and what happens if it becomes faulty and will it be repaired under warranty...

8 and 9 series are the ones effected, and the 9 series being effected is kinda sketchy at this point. But hey my 8600mGT has had zero issues, granted its not an effected unit. But if your looking for that level of gaming the ati3200 will beat a 8400mGS and will probably cost less too.

9600m gt is based on 96 core, but in fact that doesn't mean anything yet.

My 3450 is more powerful than the 8400gs, so if you want to be sure you don't get a faulty graphics card, get a dv5z. You should be able to configure a pretty powerful machine for less than $800 with the current coupons.

Ok guys how abt this lappy?

    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/me/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3744188-3767274.html

Is this better than the one i chose before. This one has got AMD and i dono whether it is better or not. One more thing, is it better to get more ram or a better processor, i'll be concentrating more on gaming and general stuff.

P.S Compare it with this lappy, this is the one i chose before: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/me/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3672909-3722364.html

my ATI 3200 IGP is more powerfull then an 8400mGS, so the 3450 will be an even bigger improvement vs an 8400.
