Which one is better? (not heat just performance)
-
The M in the card names stands for mobile, so all the laptop cards should have it in there.
The names of the two 8600 laptop cards are "8600M GT" and "8600M GS", with the GT being the better one by a significant margin. -
Um, 8600m is the mobile verion of nvidia's cards, desktop versions are better. If u meant 8600g vs 8600gt, then gt wins.

Yeah both are correct the m stands for mobile and the gt is far better than the g. -

Here's the difference in 8400M G, GS, GT & 8600M GS, GT

There are 8600M GT's with 256MB and there are 8600M GT's with 512MB. The type of memory DDR2 vs DDR3 depends on the manufacturer choice. A lot like the Celeron cpu model of half the memory, but twice the speed vs double the memory half the speed. They are about the same in performance with maybe the DDR3 doing slightly better, and overclocking better.
Some feel the notebook 8600m GT performs similar to a desktop 7800GT. -
I believe the GDDR3 performs significantly better because the "halfed memory" is insignificant with TurboCache and enough RAM.
8600 GT vs 8600 M
