I have a Dell laptop with the nvidia 8600m GT in it. Yea its already crapped out 3 times and Dell has replaced it 2 times and im waiting for them to come and give me a THIRD new one. They refuse to do ANYTHING other then replace it....... Does anyone have any ways or ideas of anything i can do with this? because im pretty sure the cards going to crap out again.
-
when did you buy it?
-
-
yeah sell it and get a sager or a gateway laptop refurb for half the price of the m1530 then go out to Chilis with the left over money and have fun.
JKIng, but seriously sell it and buy a better laptop. -
it was bought last november sadly
they wont let me return it even tho i was calling about issues within the first month of use
-
Wait a minute, do I smell a lemon law involve? Sadly your laptop is a lemon but isn't a car so the only thing you can do is to get it fixed and get rid of it. Sell it and let it be gone forever from your sight.
-
*************
also they did nothing and wanted me to pay 400 to fix it which is more than half of the price i got it.
get a new computer supposedly not a dell -

I dont think any laptop company gonna fix your laptop for free after the warranty has expired. If they fix then there is no meaning of warranty itself.
The thing is right that they charge a whole lot of money for small stuff.
I got a Intel Core2Extreme X9000 from ebay at 350$ and when I talked with DELL about updating, they told me I need to pay 1200$ just for 2.6 GHZ Core2Duo from 2.4 GHZ. This is dumb else its superb. I had a old Inspiron 9400 and it used to damage frequently from heating. They tried to fix it 3 times, it didnt and they sent me a XPS M1730 worth 4100$ with 1gb 8800m gtx sli,2.4 ghz cpu,4gb ram.
Never know u might get lucky like I did. -
i know this is bringing up a dead thread but i have an update they said they are going to send me a new computer (the same one) ignoring everything i have presented them about the design flaw with the card. Also he said that if it happened to the new computer they are going to do nothing and not replace anything because it would have to be missuse on my part? lol so playing a video game that THEY SAID was alright and should be able to handle easily as it is an old game and the graphics are ALWAYS at minimum settings is MISSUSE!
-
wow man the same thing has happended to me with an Asus G2S. had to get it fixed 3 times now. the last time they gave me a new laptop, which is their warranty policy. not sure of dell. best of luck
-
i just bought a m1530 a few months ago and so far its been fine playing intense games, i think the newer ones have fixed cards or something, so hopefully ur new one will be fine, but that is bs what they said about how they wont do anything if it happens again and it has to be misuse, thats really crappy of them to assume something like that from a card that has known issues.
-
-
yea they wont address that issue at all they just ignore it when i present them with it im pretty sure theres some legal action im able to take against them too since this has been replaced so many times as it is not even an hour after one tech left my house 3 weeks ago it happpened again http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/5172/failar9.jpg is an image of what happens to my screen quickly followed by a blue screen. i mean come on i cant even play GUILDWARS at minimum graphics because it happens
-
That picture looks odd... Doesnt seem like a hardware issue.
-
what are you trying to say it is then? theyve already had me reinstall drivers and updates and even windows itself 4 times theyve done it himself too
-
Maybe get a cooler for it and not use it flat sitting on a bed so it gets some airflow
-
thats exactly what my 5920g looked like when my 8600m gt went out.
-
to sama i dont use it flat sitting on a bed in most cases its never left sitting on anything that could clog it for more then 10 seconds its usually propped up on so the bottem is completly in the air with nothing obstructing airflow
-
alright new update dell has yelled at me yes YELLED at me over the phone. that they are not going to even replace the computer now that its a software issue with the games and things im running. HE EVEN HAD THE NERVES TO TELL ME THIS CARD COULDNT HANDLE GUILDWARS! so im contacting the guildwars support and nvidias support and asking them both for information regarding these issues
-
-
did you get the name of the rep you were on the phone with?
I do believe this is an nvidia problem and not a dell problem with the video cards. -
I certainly understand your frustration and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. However, please note that there is no such known issue with the GeForce 8400 or the GeForce 8600M GT GPUs.
is what Nvidia has to say about my question to them. And i could get the name of the rep if i needed to is there any reason youd want that? Also if i re enabled aero and made the computer look nice again do you think that would cause it to happen more frequently and i can enable the rest of the advanced settings because currently i turned everything off and it looks like im runing windows 98 XD -
You should never be yelled at by the sales rep, thats when you ask to speak to their supervisor and get it escalated. They cant help you, but their supervisor might replace your laptop. If not go up and up and up if its worth it to you. If not cut your losses.
-
oh see this guy says he is the top of the escalation and that i couldnt go any further and that there was no body above him
-
"this guy" was full of crap.
its their responsibility to back their product, they know exactly what is wrong with it, they are making it hard for you to save themselves money. Also I would go well above who ever yelled at you, I would have lost it, if it happens again get his name, and try to get a hold of their resource or management. -
yea ive been trying to take this as high as i can they just loop you
-
just keep at it, they will cave or youlll get the right person one of these times.
-
its been the same person for a week now XD trying to tell me all sorts of different reasons why this wont work and is not offering a REAL solution to any of them ive already reinstalled windows RAN ALL the diagnostics updated all the drivers windows and EVERYTHING
-

Wow I can't believe what that dell rep said. I knew they had a reputation of being dicks, but this? Ridiculous. If he says that he's at the top of escalation, ask him for his name, and complain about him to his superiors. Everyone has a superior, unless he/she is the CEO. -
-
Thanks im glad some one is on the same thought proccess as me XD
im still looking for more information regarding the cards since Nvidia wont tell me theres a problem. so if anyone could provide me with some it would be m uch appretiated -

8600m sucks....
nowadays dell is trying to sell laptops in cheap price but compromising in the quality of it..so it does crap often. -
As a former tech I am just curious,
When did this start happening(for example right after you received the system or out of the box)? What do you use the notebook for i.e. gaming, work, whatever? What happens before the card fails (graphical artifacts, weird desktop graphics problems)? Any other problems with the system? If the card is frying over and over with limited strain it may be a motherboard rather than vid card issue. -
it started about a the week i received the computer (which was already after the 21 day crap was up) it was a Christmas present that was ordered in november. i use it for alota stuff gaming and typing up homework and doing research. I reported the problems during january where i constantly got the display driver had stopped responding and has succesfully recovered error every 10 minutes. Before it goes into the distorted graphics and everything becomes impossible to see the screen usually stutters stops and i get flashes like ill see my character moving then stop and then appear where i told it to move to. sometimes it even starts warping graphics and the characters look like they are being abducted by wierd multicolored beams that obviously shouldnt be there. They have replaced the motherboard once already. but this is the only problem really with the system.
I had attempted to be respectful to the agent he was constantly interupting me while i was trying to describe the issue and my mother asked him to let me finish speaking and he started getting louder everytime he spoke after that. He kept on saying that its either this or that and he got set on telling me that it was not compatible with the games that i was trying to play guildwars yea right... the requirements for that game are terrible. I read him the requirements right off the box and he said well its probably a problem with their software and that i should contact them for their updates or whatever... So i did that and they replied with "
As far as we are aware, nothing that Guild Wars does under normal operation would cause the issue you have described and sent a screenshot in about. What you are describing sounds like a hardware related issue." so even they believe this is a hardware issue -
dell is going down the drain with this kind of customer service. they should just shut down rather than provide crappy services
-
what do you think my chances of winning are? because ive been looking into this issue of the lawsuit for a while now and im still quite unsure of what i could actually take them to court over
-
just scare the agent that you'll going to sue them
-
Dell has just told me that there is no hardware issue and its not their fault there is nothing they can do they rnt going to replace anything telling me its still a software issue they have given no resolution or reason why the problems happening other then maybe try buying more ram and putting that in. way to fail dell...
-
Take them to court - join a lawsuit.
-
thats what i want to do but i cant seem to find enough to use against them or what all i could use against them
-
In the UK you get something called the "citizens advice bureau" - free legal help.
Do you get something similar in the US (I assume that's where you are)
Talk to a lawyer - see if he thinks you have a case.
8600 crap out (i know shot to death)
