8600's with GDDR3 being phased out for inferior 9500GS's?

I'm looking at the notebooks on Xotic that i remember having the 8600 gddr3 like the asus g1's but now they only have the 9500s available (or the 3650 on newegg). Are there any resellers still using the 8600 GDDR3 cards?

 

I think the only place to find 8600's now is Dell or newegg.

 

They are hardly inferior. A 9500m gs with gddr2 ram is only slightly slower than an 8600m gt with gddr3 ram. Once they start using gddr3 ram in the 9500m gs, it will be faster than a 8600m gt with gddr3 ram.

Dell (m1530) and Alienware (m15x) are still using the 8600m gt with gddr3 ram.

 

I think the new 9 series has the power saving options and such, so it is supposed to be an upgrade, but performance wise, you are right. I wonder if the 9500 ddr2 is able to oc higher than the 8600 ddr3.

isnt it only partially the same card? the clocks are the same but the 9500gs should still be inferior due to the ddr2 and im pretty sure the 8600gt with gddr3 can OC better to pull ahead in performance

 

Performance wise it's inbetween the ddr2 and the ddr3 8600gt. Maybe you can OC it enough to let it perform at the 8600gt ddr3 level...

I think the 3650 uses ddr3 though.

 

I'm not sure if it uses gddr3 but it's still slower than a 9500m gs. It performs more like a 8600m gt w/ gddr2.

 

if its using ddr2, then its equivalent to the 8600m gt ddr2. the only difference is the clock speed. they 8600m gt / 9500m gs is the same card. its not inferior unless they are also dropping the gddr3 for ddr2 (lowering the clockspeed of the memory significantly)

for raw Gaming..8600M GT is still better.


9500M GS is for improving PureVideo & HDMI videos.

 

Huh, the 9500M GS and 8600M GT are the same physical card. The boost in 3dmark score probably due to Penryns. Both G84M at same clocks, no new functionality. Just a rename. Like the 8800GS & the 9600GSO.
The 9650M GS is a 8700M GT.
The 9500M G is a 65nm 8600M GS (G98 I believe)
The 9600M GT has 120Gflops rather than the usual 103 on the G84M/G96M. It scores the same as the 8700M GT in 3dmark according to notebookcheck. Looking forward to see that
9700M GT is a *rumored to be a* G96b, 55nm thus clocked higher than 9650M GT probably.
9700M GTS is a G94M, at least as powerfull as the 8800M GTS
9800M GT is a G94M too, ~8800M GTX I'd say, probably equal to desktop 9600GT
9800M GTS is, rumored too, to be G94b, 55nm thus higher clocked than the 9800M GT.
9800M GTX is a G92M, I'd say ~ desktop 8800GT 512, or a bit better, probably 128 shaders

9600M GS= 65nm 9500M GS
9600M GT= 65nm 9650M GS EXCEPT that the 9600M GT doesn't have mandatory GDDR3 memory >_>

 

are we going to see a 9500gs with gddr3 any time soon? or better yet when is the 9650 going to drop in noteboks other than the acer?

 

i doubt 9500 will get gddr3, but im pretty sure we will see 950/9600/9700 with gddr3 in a few notebooks by the end of summer

Well, 8600M GT GDDR3 is pretty rare.
The 9600M GT is a 65nm 9650M GS/8700M GT. The 9650M GS has a 29W TDP like the 8700M GT but the 9600M GT is only 23W so for 15.4'', probably the 9600M GT. The problem with the 9600M GT is that, although official specs is GDDR3 1600, can be manufactured with DDR2 800, unlike the 8700/9650M GS

 

thanks, i checked them out. very overpriced unfortunately

wouldnt that be false advertising? should we expet sager/clevo, asus and the other big names to start using those cards soon? i may just wait a month or so if i have to.
