I've done a search but I didn't get a good answer for this question. From what I understand the 8600GT should be the superior card no matter what video memory the 8400 series uses because of its stream processors. Could someone confirm this as I've noticed a lot of laptops in China use the 8400 series.

Yes. No matter how much faster the memory, the 8400M GS will lack shader power when compared to the 8600M GT.

The 8400M-GS cannot match either the memory bandwith nor the shading power of the 8600M-GT, no matter what memory types are used. The 8400M-GT surpasses the 8600M-GT DDR2 in bandwith, but still has only half the shading power, making it an inferior card (though not by as much; the 8400M-GT is a decent solution for a mid-level gaming card). The 8400M-G is nearly worthless as a gaming card compared to the 8600M-GT, with a fourth the shading power.

In the future, please read the board stick before posting a new thread, and keep all GPU comparison questions in the GPU Guide linked in the sticky.

    Thanks.

Sorry about that, I'll have to reread Chaz's big sticky on the details. The succinct explanation is appreciated though.

It's no problem, I'm glad I could help.
