Hey guys, I'm posting out of curiosity because I have a feeling somethings up with this 8600m GT. I had the Inspiron 1520 for 2 days before returning it and played Top Spin 2 at 1280 x 1024 and Call of Duty 2 at 1280 x 800 and the system was fabulous, very very smooth. Now that I received the Vostro, both games are choppy, even Top Spin 2 at 1024 x 768 and Call of Duty 2 I've had to go down to 1024 x 768.

The systems are identical except the 1520 I returned had a T7100 vs. the T7300 I have now and the 1520 had a 120gb vs the 160gb now. Also, the 1520 had Vista Home Premium. The Vostro came with Home Basic, which was just as bad in gaming as the Vista Ultimate I have loaded now.

Any thoughts on why these games don't run smoothly when they did on the 1520? I attached my ATI Tool screenshot. I used Riva Tuner on the 1520 and although I can't remember the settings, it feels like the Vostro is less powerful when it comes to gaming. I just dont get it

The CPU should hardly make any difference because you're GPU limited either way.

Check your power settings and make sure that they are set at "High Peroformance".

Are you using the same drivers? That's the next thing I would suggest - update them using this guide:

Same drivers 163.11. The newer ones are causing my system to crash. Thanks for the high performance reminder, I forgot to make that switch with the new system. It's slightly better but not performing the way I know it can.
