Couldnt think of a better way to describe. Playing games, they run fine, but every 30-60 seconds it pauses completely and then goes back to normal about a half second later. Makes playing online impossible. I have 165.01 drivers for Vista. Any ideas?

Also regarding Vista, its my first time using as my OS. Is its own way of managing ram ok? as it says I have 2gb ram, with 1.4gb 'cached' and 33mb free! Is this normal for vista? Also, it says i have 1gb video memory, I assume my applications still take priority as they need them rather then a bunch of memory being wasted? Basically I just want to know that my ram is being managed ok and not being hogged and hence why my games are pausing.

    thanks!

That is clearly an situation of the graphics driver stop responding to the OS, and recovery.

Try using a diferent driver(163.69/.71), maybe that version have instability/incompatibility problems with you hardware or games.

Upgraded. Drivers aren't labeled in numerical order.

I having this issue but I think it's because of my hd, when playing fifa 07 on lan I get those pauses like every 30 seconds, on bf2 single player (didn't try mp yet) the hd led starts to bright and the game slows down

omg, this explains BOTH my laptop's issues, I have a DV9500T with an 8600GS, and a Sager 5790 with an 8700GT BOTH having this issue..

Only there's a BIG problem... when "upgrading" to the other drivers, it stopped the stuttering/freezing problem, but now I lost ALOT of FPS :(

I used to get 55+fps in TF2 @max 1920x1200 on the 8700GT, now it gets 35+fps on the same settings... and that's a massive downgrade, ALSO, I've lost the ability to play OpenGL games

Why? Is it not completely logical to assume that drivers are released in order? I always thought they were and I've always known them to be, i.e, evertime I upgrade to newer drivers on both desktop and laptop the newest release was always an increment on the previous ones 163.44->163.69 etc...

Wierd! Ah well, ya learn something new everyday!! I'm only catching up on the driver/8600gt/stuttering issues now - I only have this 8600gt a few days and before that I had a 7400, which worked best with ancient 80.xx drivers so i havent needed to keep in touch for quite some time!
