    Hi,
I am about to purcahse a macbook pro which is the 2.2ghz,128 mb8600GT.
I have read on many forums how well the macbook prop with the 8600GT 256 version handles games and in particular Bioshock(high to medium settings).
My main question is how much better is the 256mb card to the 128card,what will be the main diffences in a games like Bioshock, and games in general.
Will I need to run Bioshock on low settings,or will it run well at medium, with reduced resolution.
Does anyone have the 8600GT 128mb card(not necessarily in the macbook)qand can you give me some info on how it runs?
    thanks all

With cards should run bioshock ok, but if you got the cash get the model with the 256mb of video ram because basically all games now require a 256mb graphics card to run the way the game maker would you to experience them.

    8600GT is split into GDDR2 and GDDR3.

8600GT GDDR3 blows 8600GT GDDR2 out of the water, although both can run current games effortlessly.

Does anyone have this model of macbook pro and can you tell me about it's overall games performance as well as bioshock thanks.

alright here to save the day for ya buddy, i recently got the 128mb MBP after thinking a LOT, in the end i couldnt pay that much more for 128mb of vram, in the bioshock demo, i run at 1280x800 with everything on high, except for texture details on medium, and v sync off, which is default anyway, and get about an average of 20fps and seems to run very well, no slowdowns. make sure you get the 163.44 drivers though they help a lot. and from the looks of it i dunno for sure but would like to, the 128mb DDR3 version is running bioshock better than the 256/512mb DDR2 version but thats only speculation from what i have seen so far.

but there is a very significant difference in 3dmark06 scores between the DDR3 versions. 128mb gets around 2900-3000 and 256mb gets around 3600-3800. keep us updated
