8600M GS or 9650M GS (turbocache)?

I am looking to buy a new laptop. I will be doing some gaming on it, but can't afford anything with an 8800M GTX. I have narrowed it down to an Acer, with a 9650M GS but with Turbocache (which is bad for the whole gaming thing) or a Clevo M570RU with an 8600M GS. Both are great systems with loads of RAM and a good processor etc, so it's really just the GPU that I have to decide on. Any pointers? Thanks.

The 9650GS is a die shrink 9 series equivalent of the 8600 GT so pick the 9650. Both cards actually have Turbocache so what you should really pay attention to are the physical specifications of each card. Read the big gaming sticky for more information (specifically Chaz's video card guide).

The 9650M is the 9 series equivilant of the 8700m GT. It is by far superior to the 8600m gs which isn't much of a step up over my 8400m GT.

There should be alot of new laptop gpu's coming out in the next few months so it may be worth the wait ;)

The 9500M GS is the equivalent of the 8600M GT. The 9650M GT is actually the equivalent of the 8700M GT.

All the more reason for the OP to pick the 9650 GS then, thanks for the correction.

Lazy to type it again :p

If it's around ~$1300 and you're living in the US, then you can definitely get a 8800M GTS in the Gateway P something (Arghhhhhh can't remember the name, anyway just go to best buy website and search fot "Gateway P")

For your question, 9650M is way better than 8600M GS. Don't worry about Turbocache, it only takes memory when there isn't enough.

Thanks for all the help! My budget is around £1000, or $2000.

Great tip on the Gateway! It looks to be exactly what I want, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the UK. I emailed Best Buy about shipping it over, so fingers crossed,

Any known sellers of Gateway laptops in the UK? Or other 8800M hidden gems?

Wait...I thought we determined some time back that the 9650M GS was almost identical to the 8700M GT, and the 9500M GS was the 8600M GT?
