i've updated to 174.31 it gave me a huge performance hit and it seems that overclocking isnt working in both rivatune and ntune i can move the settings it even shows my oc in gpu-z but doesnt seem to have any effect

even rolling back to my previous drivers wont help i wonder whats wrong

now i barely get 2300points in 3dmark06 while in the previous drivers i get in the 3.3-3.4 range

i dont know what to do is this a hardware problem or a software problem

You used to gt 3.3k in 3dmark06 1280x1024 on a 8600M GS? That's impossible. 2.2k is what oyu shoul get

Use driversweeper on safemode to completely remove all traces of the old drivers before changing to newer drivers

I wouldn't say that an 8600 GS couldn't get up into the low 3k's w/ 06. It depends on the overall system, clock speeds, temperature, etc. Suprising results happen often, as 3dmark is only a general benchmark in which can be very decietful.

And GizMic, try Flipfire's advice. 1. Download new (previously used) drivers 2. uninstall old 3. restart in safemode 4. run driversweeper and ccleaner 5. restart in normal windows 6. Install new (previously used) drivers. After that quick process you should be all set. RivaTuner should be back online as well. Let us know how it turned out.

    At 1280x1024? The DDR2 8600M GT scores 3-3.3k and the GDDR3 3.6-4k

He was talking about the 8600M G S, which should get about 2.5 k.

Try 169.09 and 174.31. They seem to be best performers

hmm i did all the suggestions above im about getting the same scores with oc or not i think the oc is working fine

so it could be something else hmm can the 8600MGS thrott down on high temps i'm getting in the 90C's during 3dmark. since its spring (20Cish) now could this be the problem? and should i invest on notebook cooling now

Oh, it's the GDDR3 one? I was completly unaware some OEM actually made them while equipping DDR2 on every 8600M GT

ya it's the ddr 3 version...look at his mem oced settings.
I get 3000 oced 3dmark06 on my hp 9500t but its at the default demo version resolution which is lower(I can't remember off the top of my head what it is) but I think it makes an estimated 200-300 point difference.
