When I bought my laptop, I got 150FPS on the CSS stress test using the same settings which will now give me 84FPS.
I am downloading 3dmark06 so that I will be able to subjectively compare some results with the rest of you 8600M GT owners, because I have noticed that my performance has dramatically decreased and is extremely fickle and unstable.
I used to play CSS competitively and I had net_graph 3 on all the time. I would get a constant 90-150 FPS. Now, using the same settings, I'm getting drops into the TEENS and hovering around 30-40 FPS, even though it will spike to 180 all the time.
Downclocking to save power? I'm plugged in. So I use ATiTool to set all 3 (2D, 3D-Low, 3D-High) clock speeds to the standard 3D-High speed, even OC to 525/500. Hardware Monitor reports that my clock speeds ARE indeed set, but performance is still horrible. I don't know what's causing this, but it seems as if my GPU is too *LAZY* and refuses to run at full power. Often times it will hit a really high FPS, and when the screen doesn't even change, immediately drop to a 25FPS or so. Like it's saying "Oh, I don't need to try that hard, 12 FPS is alright, slow down..."
I've reformatted 3 times and tried different setups, diagnostics, drivers, etc. to try to figure out what's wrong. I found nothing.![]()

Forceware 169.28's from LV2G

2GB RAM
Could this be a problem with the most recent drivers? I will try to post a 3dmark score ASAP.
Thanks for your help.
EDIT: I'm going to try the most recent Dell drivers now, I'll post results.

i've had some bs happen to me while playing gta:san andreas on 169.28. it would run quite sluggishly. changed to 169.04 and haven't had that issued anymore. try installing different drivers.

this is one of the reasons why i have decided to stay away from dell
-
On the CoD4 demo I have it basically on high and get an average of around 45-50 FPS but it seems like there's alot of screen tearing, or it's what it looks like anyways, is that just a demo issue?
I noticed it in the Crysis demo too, btw im using 169.28 as well. -
with vsync on?
-
I tried Dell's most recent driver, based off the 156.xx or 158.xx (can't remember which one), and it doesn't help that much. A little better perf., but still dropping really low. I'll go far back and try a 100 series driver and let you know if it helps.
-
That's the option to sync every frame right? It might have been off because I did optimal then fixed everything. -
yes with vsync off you will experience tearing when your framerates go above the refresh rate of the monitor (above 60 FPS).
-
Try 169.04. Get rid of ATiTool it's terrible. Grab the latest install of RivaTuner. Make sure when you install 169.04, you boot into safe mode and use a program such as Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper to get rid of all the old nVidia files. Proceed to boot into Windows, install your driver and go from there.

I used 101.28's and I can avg STABLE (good) about 100, not my old 150. It has it's own rendering issues though, and I remember I used a 155 release back in the day to avoid it.
I will try 169.04's and Driver Cleaner. -
^Confirmed 169.04 fixes this. Thanks a lot.
Repp'd both you guys. -
no crap! 169.04 for oscar
-
would that apply for bf2 and company of heroes as well?
-
So is COD 4 pretty much playable with most things near max resolution? I really dont want a 17" laptop but i mostly care about being able to play this game on say a dell 1530...

Just to make sure, you don't have AA or AF forced in the nvidia control panel, have you?
-
-
There is no way that you can get 4946 points on 3d Mark 06 with 1280x800 , maybe with a lower resulotion -_-; -
This is OLD too, I have recently broke the 5k mark with a DDR2 version of the 8600mGT. I have that exact same resolution, nothing is impossible. -
Hi all
Could someone tell me what i should do for my new 1720 inspiron 2.2 gh with nvidia geforce 8400m GS card. What all should i do to upgrade the drivers and where can i get them.
Also could u share ur experiences and opinion on games playable on this lappie.
Thnks -
You should have said, 'nothing is impossible if you overclock
'
-
-
I could finally make the 169.09 drivers work and I get 4425 points with my card overclocked at 610 / 460
so ofcourse you can get 5000 with a much better cpu like i got. -

+rep for just the good laugh and effort of actually having a sense of humor. Something I think these forums lack.
