Hey peeps, I'm new to the forum :D and have a lil' question for those who are more knowledgeable than i :p

My laptop (a rock pegasus 665) has a 8600M GT, and I'm wondering whether it can output 1920x1080 through DVI, i had a google about, and it seems that this resolution requires dual link dvi, which apparently some manufacturers don't use on laptops or something.... i have tried it on a sony bravia TV, and it doesn't seem to work, though I'm wondering if its just the TV which won't allow it . i attached a pic of my dvi port if that helps at all

    thanks in advance,
    Matt :)

Why don't you try it?Hook your laptop to the TV,and see if you cant change the resolution in Windows? If your laptop supports HDMI,use a HDMI cable and hook it to your TV.Dual Link DVI means getting multiple outputs or combined outputs,so for Dual Link DVI,I suppose you should have 2 monitors,or TV's.

Instead of asking,it is better to test yourself.Connect it to your TV,and try to change the resolution in Windows, while it is connected.

hey, thanks for the reply, but I did,
also, as far as I know, dual link is for higher resolution displays, not for driving multiple monitors.

I know I'm new here, but please try to read my post and make relevant answers, instead of suggesting things I have already done.

    thanks,
    Matt

Dual Link DVI=2 DVI slots and 2 DVI cables,so you will have 2 DVI cables,so 2
DVI slots at the end.If your TV has,2 DVI slots,I think you can increase the resolution, but I beleive that Dual Link DVI means, connecting your laptop to 2 monitors/2 TV's since with Dual Link DVI you should have 2 cables and 1 DVI slot at the end of two cables so=2 DVI slots=Getting multiple outputs. If your TV of course has 2 DVI slots, maybe Dual Link DVI should increase the resolution, but I have not much knowledge in this topic either. If you are still stuck, try searching on google.

    *sigh*
    also,

    Wikipedia - DVI

dual link dvi is for driving higher resolution displays from ONE connector and ONE cable. I appreciate your help, but my first post asked people who are more knowledgeable on the subject than I, can anyone else help?

    Matt

Well, seems no one is helping. But dont you have a HDMI slot?It would be a lot better than DVI "stuff"
