I searched around the forum but didn't really see anything. Right now I'm O/Cd to 520/450 and getting GREAT framerates in call of duty 4.

While monitoring the temperature, it got up to 74C ... is that too hot?

74*C is fine - you should get worried if it goes over 85 - 90*C.

Nvidia said the 8600M GT has no problems until 100C.

the hottest my 8700m has hit is 74 C.

That was the first day I used it. Crysis for an hour now heats it to 65 to 70 C.

    I'm sure you're ok though.

You should not be worried at all until it breaks 95 or so. My 8600 goes over 80 at stock settings.

That's fine for a gpu, they have much higher tolerance to heat than cpus and are designed to take much higher temps, usually up to around 120 C I tink.

Yeah. The problem with my laptop is that since it has Vista, it won't allow me to even monitor my GPU temp.

The even worse part is is that I have speedfan, but I have NO idea of even how to use it. The only thing I can look at is the CPU temp.

But I just take the developer's word for it. If they say no problems until 100 C, then it should be perfectly fine. I just decided to get a cooling pad so that the underside of my laptop wouldn't be so warm.

I guess i'll just have to wait until they fix that little nTuner problem with Vista.

You can definitely monitor the GPU temp with Vista. I've done it with both nTune and Rivatuner. However, it may be disabled in the GPU BIOS if you're using the default BIOS. The 169.xx drivers from laptopvideo2go.com will flash the BIOS and replace it with one that allows all features (overclocking and temp monitoring).
