Hey guys.
I have a little somethig going on here, not sure if I'm expecting too much, but here's the thing. I am extremely pleased withthe 8600M GT's performance and quality, however when playing Flight Simulator 2004, I set the Anti Aliasing to 4x or 8x even, and notice no difference with the jaggies. As airplanes and buildings are still jagged around the edges.
Are there any particular settings I need to set on the Control Panel for the card? This is my first time with an NVidia card, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

From my experience, it's best to leave anti-aliasing as application controlled. Maybe FS2004 just doesn't support AA too well or your GPU control panel really is just kinda set unorthodoxly. All I know is I wish I had an 8600GT myself.

Check the EXE for the game inside the NVIDIA control panel. Assure the AA settings are set. If that doesn't work, set it to application controlled.
If that fails. Likely Microsoft cheape'd out on the AA compatibility. -
If you aren't using the latest drivers, install them now (after uninstalling your current ones). Often times AA support just doesn't become available until its fixed in the driver. Try anything 169.xx or later.
Then there are some games where AA just will not be possible with current methods due to the way the game engine works. -
I have activated AA in game but that doesn't change anything... I just play at a lower resolution than the native one: the jaggies are smoothed out...

the in game aa option wouldnt work for me with my desktop x800 with fs2004
im playing fsx now and the in game option works fine with 8600m gt in my inspiron
also i might add that with the service packs for vista and fsx, it runs way better than i expected on the 8600m gt - loading times are a bit long and lots of traffic slows it down a bit but other than that im really impressed. -
AA is borken on 16x.xx drivers

In Nvidia Control Panel, click on "let 3d application decide".
-
Just get the newest off dell.com they are just as fast and 100% compatible! -

guys from l2g make sure the mobility settings are still intact- powermizer and such. u can check it out urselves in the nvidia control panel -
Why are some people afraid of lv2g drivers? They're just nvidia drivers modified to fit notebooks... All you have to do is follow their instructions on how to go about the installation.
-
I had l2vg drivers prior to installing the latest dell ones, and I was already running into problems, with sleep/ hibernating and some gaming. Since it happened right after I installed the drivers, I assumed it was them causing the issues.

it is more likely that you will run into issues with lv2go drivers vs dell if you have a dell laptop.
but while a few have sleep/hibernate issues (this is the most common problem) with lv2go - most lv2go drivers don't have those problems.
Just find a new one that works, you can get one much newer than what dell provides. -
I guess I'll give them a go again. Can any recommend any particular drivers? I'm running Vista-32bit by the way.
-
169.04 or 169.09.
-
is anyone using the 169.09 drivers?
-
Yes, LOTS of people are, including myself.
-
-
After Crysis, Oblivion, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Titan Quest, and more, nope.
Why 169.09? Those have already been replaced by 169.21. -

I have a resolution for your query that WILL work.
I had EXACTLY the same problem as you. I have the same setup as you too.
It's easy...
Download the latest version of Nhancer from here:
http://www.nhancer.com/?dat=downloads
Make sure you select the right version of Vista.
Install it and open it up.
Create a 3D profile for FS9, the same as you would in the stock Nvidia control panel.
Check Anti-Alisasing in the Enhancements section, then check Supersampling and select something like 16xS. It gives you a little explanation at the bottom as to how activating this feature was dropped on the 8x00 range of cards.
Make any other tweaks you want, again as you would in your regular Nvidia control panel, then exit.
Start FS2004, and hey presto!
If it didn't work, toggle the Anti Aliasing check box in the game and try reloading.
Let me know how you get on.
Tom.
