Hey guys,
Recently "side"-graded from my G1S to an Inspiron 1520, from an 8600M DDR3, to and 8600M DDR2. I can't remember what my old 3DMark06 scores were on my Asus, but I do recall that they hovered around 4000 with some overclocking.
On my Inspiron, with DDR2 I'm getting about 3250 with the stock Dell drivers.
Can anyone confirm if this is an average, below or above average score?
I tried swapping the Dell drivers to 169.25s from LV2Go and actually experienced a 100 point drop. I'll stick with the Dell drivers until and unless someone can recommend some better ones.
-
Not sure, I have practically non-existent clock and 169.04 drivers and my score is 4391.
[1280x800] on my sig lappy. -
why did you down grade
-
that's about the average score for the Inspiron 8600m GT. Try using 174.74 drivers
-
With 174.74 I OC'd and got higher than that.
-
~3500-4000 with at least a 2.0 CPU.
-
I just ran it.
3353, 169.04
Laptop in sig.
No OC at all. -
With current drivers, GDD3 gets ~4000, DDR2 gets ~3300.
-
~3500 with the 174.12 driver.
-
3362 stock, 3922 @ 600/445.
-
3892 No OC ,no idea what drivers.
-
thats pretty high for a ddr2 8600; is that in standard 3dmark06 resolution?
-
He has the 512MB version
Which is about equal (a little below) the performance of a 256MB GDDR3
I also have the Dell 8600MGT DDR2 and got 4193 @ 595/1425/630
Got about a 100 point increase by upgrading to 4GB Ram..
So the ram upgrade was def worth it!
Maybe not for the extra 1.5gigs under vista but the timings are a lot better too! -
-
just oc to like 650/520 or so and youll get scores closer to that again
-
No DDR2 8600M GT can touch the GDDR3 version, have it 256,512 or 2 gb of memory. It just doesn`t.
-
Excellent feedback, guys. Good to know that there's room to improve here.
Per the two most substantial responses in the thread, I'm going to give the 174.74 and 169.28 drivers a try and get back to you with Non-OC / OC results.
BTW, because the differences involved are so drastic, be advised that the 3dMark06 marks that I always refer to are using 1280x1024 as resolutions!! -
dedicated memory has almost nothing to do with anything.
-
about 4300 specs in sig. 174.74 @ 530/520/1060
-
Well my score was taken at 1280 x 800,sue me
-
ive scored over 4000 at 1280x800 with my 8600 gt ddr2.
-
Your guy's 8600 must be on steriods. Mines from Dell Vostro 1500 (Twin of the Inspiron 1520) gets about 3150~.
-
Hey guys,
Could anyone tell me off the bat why RivaTuner won't allow me to overclock the 174.74 drivers??? I "enable driver overclocking", slide the markers up, but when I press Apply and then OK the values reset themselves to stock and nothing happens...I have yet to be able to overclock my 8600 because of this problem!
Any ideas??? -
You sure your score was with the 1280 x 800 ?? I have a GX600 also with the 1650 x 1050 screen and it runs the 3DMark06 test at the regular resolution of 1280 x 1024. God Bless -

3DMark06
512mb GeForce 8600mGT DDR2
Resolution on test: 1280x800 (native)
Default clockspeed
3884 3dMarks
OC'ed clockspeeds (635/1520/490)
5100 3DMarks
Edit: Wtf why does it say I have an 8600 GS? I have a Compal IFL90, I don't think that it even supports an 8600GS. -
Anyhow, I have the DDR2 version and I get the score indicated in my sig at 1280x800. -
-
You guys need to start running it at the standard 1280x1024 resolution. 1280x800 gets you inflated scores.
-
The native resolution of the screen is 1280x800. I can't even set it to 1280x1024.
-
-
Any help, guys, re: my last post?
Thanks. -
if you arent running 1280x1024 the score is misleading to people shopping for laptops or comparing scores, if your lcd cant run that res and you dont have an external then dont post your score it confuses people

The problem comes when some noob gets all puffy and starts a thread "Why did bob get 324243 Marks and I only got 2???@321123"
But with worse grammar.
I see that almost all of you labeled your scores as x800, but it'd be nice to keep it standardized at one resolution. -
I just opted of a vostro 1500 with the 8600m gt & c2d t7100 @ 1.8ghz, does that mean my mark will be much lower than you guys with a 2.2 ghz 2.4 ghz?
-
A bit i guess,3dmark has a separate CPU test which will influence the final score.
And you can run your screen at resolutions higher than native:
Right click on desktop->properties->settings->advanced->Monitor and uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot support".
After that you can set the laptop monitor to any resolution you like, and run 3d mark at the res everybody is nagging about -

Got 4k on the free version with my C90. Then I went and played games because 3dmark is not a game.
-
-
-
I run mine at 1440x900, it's pretty much the same as 1024x1024.
-
On the Dell I'm selling I got about 3200 at stock (1280x1024) and 4400 Overclocked.
-
-
At 1280 x 800:
Stock Drivers, Stock Clock: ~3300
174.31 Drivers, Stock Clock: ~3500
174.31 Drivers, 630/500: ~4300
Minus about 300 points and you have 1280 x 1024.
Add 200-300 points and you have Windows XP. -
