    I have an Asus G1S-X1 with a C2D t7300, 2 gigs of ram, and a 8600M GT Graphics card.

Recently I've been experiencing stuttering while playing aion. It'll run fine for a bit then stutter for a bit repeatedly at random intervals.

I can't remember the last time I updated Drivers - does anyone have a suggestion for a Driver that may fix the problem? Or know what I can do to fix the problem?

My specs should be fine for that game according to Aion support - so I've no idea what's going on.

I recommend getting the 8600m GT drivers straight from Nvidia's website, first uninstall all physx and nvidia display drivers from add/remove programs and then restart. Then install the new ones.

It sounds possible that you have an overheating issue that may be throttling the GPU performance. Make sure any fan vents are clear of dust and debris. Using a can of compressed air or vacuum cleaner to clear out those areas.

be advised,8600m gt is a gpu that is defective,if it doesnt run cool on your laptop, then you will be screwed.download 186.81 nvidia driver from nvidia's site, from nvidia.co.uk and write "186.81" to the search field.

the 186.81 driver i recommend basically gives a better temperture results compared to other drivers and more stability.

I have seen so many 8600m gt gpu's failed,so keep the tempertures 50-55C at idle if you can and 70-75C at load.

Also maybe your operating system and your hdd is full of trash,it can cause impact on games, shutter for a second, try disc defragement, install ccleaner, clean all the rubbish, trash stuff. This will boost your performance, when the hdd is full of trash in some laptops, the games shutter,i have seen that. Also try to upgrade your ram to 3 or 4 GB.

Install fraps and see how much frame per second you get,if the avarage is low like under 60,try lowering graphics.

Thanks man, a walkthrough would be nice.

I'll also try the hard drive defrag

Edit: I'm using Vista... haven't ever tried to defrag using Vista. I'm not seeing it when I right click the hard drive lol. I fail @ computers.

defrag > start > all programs > accesories folder > system tools folder and its all in there.

to check what drivers you have loaded >>
Right click on your desktop >> NVIDIA control panel >> system information (bottom left) and it will list the driver 'forceware' version.

Here's a step by step guide on the best way of updating the drivers:

    Download driver cleaner here: HERE

this is a great program which will delete all traces of drivers as sometimes when you uninstall them they leave behind files which can cause issues when you come to install new drivers. We’ll use this in a minute

Download the latest drivers for your operating system 32/64bit from Nvidia HERE

(in the drop down boxes make sure you have first box on gforce. second box on 8m series (notebooks) and third box 8600m gt)

the latest whql drivers are 195.62 but im using 186.81 which ive found to be the best so far.

Extract/ copy the drivers files to a temporary directory such as c:\temp

Go to the control panel > program and features > scroll down the list and find NVIDIA > then select NVIDIA and click uninstall. It will ask if you want to restart the system.. click yes

Press F8 on startup and go into windows in safe mode.

Run driver cleaner and select NVIDIA drivers.. then clean.

Go to the control panel > system> device manager > graphics card. Right click on any present and click uninstall

Restart the system and go into windows normally. Install the NVIDIA drivers listed above which you put into a temporary folder

Restart the system.. and fingers crossed all should be well!

    any problems just shout.

I'm not seeing 186.81 on the available versions - just 186.83. Do you have a link to it?

Also under driver cleaner I see nforce chipset, nvidia, nvidia stereo, and nvidia WDM. I don't see nvidia drivers.

Am defraging as we speak though and have dled CCleaner.

Edit: Googled the link and found it. For some reason it wasn't coming up when I searched for it.

Under 60 is unacceptable now? Holy crap, i've been playing games on the PC never above 35 and never complained. Such a high standard.

Well, It depends on the games themselves I think, some games (mostly RPG titles) are perfectly playable under 30 FPS, while for shooter games, you really want to maintain a steady 40+ FPS, especially when you are playing online.

I agree that 60+FPS is totally unnecessary, even for the FPS games.(unless you are an extremely picky hardcore gamer).

Considering I've been living with an 8600m GT for the last 3 years, I'm VERY used to running games at or below 30FPS. This includes most recent FPS games. Truth is, I'd rather be running at native resolution and mid/low settings and low FPS than anything else. Compared to my XBOX 360, the graphics still look superior (even on my cruddy Macbook Pro screen) AND have a higher fps.

People don't realize how low the FPS is on consoles, I think this is primarily because controllers do a great job masking latency and low fps. A great way to test this is to get a PC game that supports the Xbox 360 controller and turn up the settings until you are running at or below 20 fps. You'll notice the game feels like crap with a mouse and keyboard, but it actually feels pretty smooth with the controller.

Long live mediocre quality at mediocre fps!
