That link is of one of many wierd glitches I have had doing the Temple of the Union quest in fallout 3.

The battle for lincoln memorial glitched up heaps, with wierd black and grey shapes eminating from characters, then the screen started going wierd black and grey with colours as though it was divided into quaters...

Is my card glitching? or is it fallout being poorly coded?

Ohh, those last ones suck. See if you can use this to see if your GPU is getting too hot. On my desktop machine I remember having to turn down some settings or else crashes would occur and such but no artifacting that you have going on.

Stop playing and tune your GPU down.

I didn't think you would have to tune anything, it should be plug and play with hardware, especially if it is configured by dell.

xystus might have thought that you were overclocking your GPU within your system. Assuming that you didn't futz with any of the settings, then yeah either your GPU is failing or it's getting too hot. If its still under warranty I would call it in and see if they can get the part replaced. If it isn't try to use a laptop cooler if you're not currently using one and/or use compressed air to make sure all your heating vents are clear.

Does it happen in any other game? If not, it's not the card, but probably Dell's dated driver.

176.44 really is old. Try updating to to a newer driver from laptopvideo2go before you start making phone calls.

You are absolutely right and so is Mide; I assumed you were overclocking your GPU. Sorry for that

Hope it works our for ya asap!

I dont want to use those drivers because they aren't certified by dell. I wont be allowed to complain if it craps out cos of a third party/edited driver

Using laptopvideo2go drivers do not in any way interfere with the voidage of your warranty.

    :)

Believe me, I had a dell tech connect remotely to my computer once.
and all he did was uninstall and install dell drivers.

I will also vouch that they won't refuse to uphold your warranty just because you updated your video card drivers.

And that the 180.70 drivers have worked well for me with Fallout 3.

Should i be complaining to dell that my card hit 85 degrees when playing today? Or that my CPU was on 75 degrees (!!!!)

note - this is with CLEAN vents and a propped up laptop (using coins)

Don't forget that ALL Fallout 3's are quite glitchy. There are random slowdowns, weird bugs, messed up graphics..though some of them are rare it's still as buggy as Oblivion was when it was released.

Bethesada said they are working on a big patch for all three versions.

It depends on where you live

    8600m GT's temperatures on a warm climate (around 35 C) goes up from: 75 C ~ 81 C while on heavy load, sometimes even more(check the ventilation)

CPU also tends to go from 70 ~ 80 C while playing under heavy load.

I'd suggest you call Dell for the heck of it, if you have warranty, tell them your laptop is overheating.

    They'll replace it.

Here is some more of my problem...

    - If i Let the card cool down, the glitches still appear when i alt-tab back into the game

    - Various effects like blur and red effects actually effect the gliches, as though they are elements ofthe game

    - The temperature of my card was hitting 83 degrees gaming

    - The artifacting would dissapear completely when i fast travelled to a nearby location, but not when i waited...

    - the same Glitches would remain even at different angles 3rd person and 1st person,

    83 degrees is normal.

Have you tested any other drivers or games yet?
