I know its quite confusing that this debate runs in like 3 threads with different people looking and trying to fix this. But just to make sure that everybody sees this fix (that actually seem to work if you gpu never reaches 110 degrees) here is a link to the Zepto forum:

Read atleast the last 3 pages, if you want to know more about the "standby" fix and what drivers work and all that.

Personally that has given me hope, i can for the first time in around 4month use my laptop for games now ! Im running the latest drivers 174.12 in vista x64 and do not have to use fps limits in WoW or Cod4 anymore.

    Good luck.

Is there any "risk" of overheating with the sleep fix? as i understand this fix increases the threshold of the max temp to 110, is that correct?

I'm mainly interested if after long term usage the higher heat level will damage the GPU, in time

It's worrying me that this problem is still persisting and, no official fix is on the horizon.

No there is not, the 8600gpu wont be "too hot" before it reaches around 125 degrees if you ask Nvidia, so shouldnt be anywhere near a problem.
