Guys,
I have been playing Unreal Tournament 2003 for some time and noticing some sudden slow downs in the frames (for seconds) specially when playing in large open areas with lots of details… I changed the details settings (graphics) but no much difference in slow downs… I’m pretty sure 8600M GT can handle UT2003 with not performance glitch…
what do you guys think? I’m using 156.xx drivers released by DELL… I don’t think this is a drivers issue since 156.xx is quite a new release and should be sufficient for UT2003. I have shutdown the pagefile since I have got 4Gb RAM… could this be the problem?
Cheers,

You will see many posts about updating the drivers from laptop2go.com. I did this and there are newer drivers and it does work.
-
I prefer not to use laptop2go.com drivers when there are drivers released by DELL which are pretty recent 2007/12/xx.
Besides 16x.xx drivers are beta releases where as 15x.xx are stable (correct me if Im wrong) anyway the problem here is not the drivers I guess -

Your choice but when did Dell do something right?..
I would highly recommend you try the 169.04 or 169.25 driver. -
drivers and directx update made ut2004 run from choppy to smooth on my 8400 G video card...

I dont admire DELL so much, but DELLs drivers for its laptops are much reliable than laptop2go.com drivers which arent customized for a particular model. Besides 156.xx drivers are recent and stable releases from nVidia.
I have latest directX and hopefully sufficient driver version for UT2003 (note UT2003 is quite a old release), the way I feel is that this is more like a Memory slow down rather than a driver or 8600M GT issue could it be Turbo cache ?? -
Well, you come here for advice, and we all tell you to update your drivers. I'm guessing you should try that. 15 series is sorda dated, where the 16 drivers are made for the new 8 series. Try em.

Actually the latest driver from Nvidia is the 169.25 WHQL: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.html
And by latest DX, you mean Novmeber 07'? -
Use the laptopvideo2go drivers. It's good advice.
Laptopvideo2go basically provides the Nvidia drivers, with modded inf files that let them install on laptops. So the driver itself comes from Nvidia. LV2G simply allows them to be installed on laptops.
Plus, Nvidia uses a "Unified Driver Architecture", so drivers are not designed for specific cards. They work on all nvidia cards. -

This is the problem. Windows needs a pagefile to operate properly. Leave this option at default. -
Sure, I came here to get opinions of other… however, I’m not much of fan of laptopvideo2go.com. I have had many threads here discussing about lv2g.com drivers though many had pleasant experiences some laptop owners have experienced issue with lv2g drivers. Modifying INF file may work for some laptops but may not for the rest… a INF file also has lots of configurations that helps individual laptop models to run smoothly and lv2g drivers does not have all of them… its not only about making drivers to get installed on a system….I’m not an expert but I try playing safe…
Is there a recent release of directX ??? Nov 07 ?? I didn’t know about it… I’ll find out…
Btw, laptop2go.com (home page) says latest for XP is 156.xx drivers and for Vista 169.xx drivers. What does that mean? -
i thought about it too... but usually windows should run smoothly with 4Gb RAM only. but don't know whether it needs the page file when running something like a game... the thing is that this happens on certain UT maps and not all... if the page file has something to do with this, then it should effect all maps ??

Windows XP Latest driver-
169.09
You can also read all of the user comments about this driver. How is downloading a modded .INF not safe? It's a few changes to text. I haven't heard of it "damaging" anyones system. The only thing I have heard of is BSoD if you don't install it correctly. (It gives a FULL tutorial on the site)
