Hi guys , i was playing Lost Planet DX 10 and it crashed after a few minutes =( --- >I just get black screen and nothing works , i hear music) , World in Conflict had the same effect too except it brings me back to the desktop and i saw a Caution/Warning icon in the corner of my taskbar ... When i try to re-run one of the games , my laptop loses performance, it lags just crazy! Everytime , i have to restart my whole laptop , which wastes me like 2 minutes and i forgot to mention , IN LOST PLANET, YOU CAN'T RESTART WHERE YOU WEREE, YOU HAVE TO RESTART THE WHOLE LEVEL, it sucks =(.

#1 Is it cause of my overclocking? (Core 590 / Mem 490)
    Drivers : 165.01

Notebooks overheating, could be the gpu or the processor. Also 165.01 drivers aren't very good. Should just use 163.44 or .71 and not mess with it. Also use dx9 mode inspirons really can't handle dx10

This is not due to overheat and is a known issue.

Google "video hardware error" and you will find out lots of topic about it.

Current there's no fix yet and no idea who to blame, nvidia? Microsoft?

Wow that sucks, its not that our laptop sucks ... cause i'm playing the game very smoothly (World in Conflict) medium quality =( , i enjoy it so much. So does it mean i can't overclock?

You can overclock using older 158.45 drivers but the newer drivers don't allow overclocking.

I'm having the same issue with my 8600M GT, some games crash sporadically as well as artifacts in some games.

I tried 158.45 , it gives me around 3523 benchmarks (with 3Dmarks06) and with 165.01 it gives me around 3557 benchmarks. (Both oc'ed to core570/mem470)

Its due to overheating. There was something defective either of the entire laptop or gpu because it was overheating and crashing. It never crashed when not gaming.

3dmarks dont predict how well a game is going to play. If you use the 163.74 drivers, you'd actually be able to play the game

overheating usually just makes the laptop go dead. not blank screen with noise.

Well it crashed my old laptop compeletely. Screen would freeze up and sound would loop. Also I expereienced heavy artifacting before the crash.

oh okay, mine just goes, click, and shuts off and then wont turn back on until it cools. but it is most likely do to overheating

I agree, most of the time I've seen or heard about the black screen with sound still playing the problem has been a background task (like a firewall) interfering (trying to steal the focus).

I have the same issue with multiple games on my Inspirion 1720. No overclocking, heat isn't an issue. Actually, how would I go about o-clocking my card, I didn't know I could do that on a laptop.
