Originally I was excited about the C90S but when I found out that Asus was going to be releasing a similar model but based on the upcoming bearlake chipset (and 17" so it could fit the higher end graphics cards) I planned to wait for that. I think it's now being called the C80, but chances are it's not going to be around for quite some time.

The thing is I'd really like to get a laptop before I go back to school in September and am really considering the C90S right now since it would be best suited for me. The only problem is I really dislike the fact that it's being marketed as "the first upgradeable laptop" when it's limited to the conroe extreme processor and the 8600M for the graphics card, since it's believed that the 8800M will be far too large to fit into a 15" laptop.

Do you guys think Asus will deliver more powerful MXMII based cards in the future for the C90 or is it basically just failing at what it was meant to be, upgradeable. I'm thinking the only chance of upgrading the video card would be to wait for the next generation of cards to come out and hopefully be able to fit in one of the lower end cards.

asus seems to be committed to upgradablility for their laptops so im guessing that we will be seeing some new cards from them and as upgradeable laptops become more common and there is more of a market. i think that we may see a different version of the 8700 possibly branded as a gs or something of that sort but hopefully similar power wise coming out for the c90 if nothing else there should definatly be something from the 9 series that will work great on less power.

Asus has promised upgrades in multiple interviews. Also under the key parts list that someone found 5 cards were listed. We know two the 8500/8600 one is the the 2600 from ati and the other 2 are a mystery (but are from nvidia). Its safe to assume the c90 will get some sort of upgrade an 8700m if not an 8800m but I personally think 8800m will work.

Um, those conroe processors are faster than anything mobile today. I doubt you'll feel the need to upgrade them in less than 2 or 3 years.

Yeah I understand they're faster than anything mobile and I know they are great processors...the point is that the system is supposed to be upgradeable. The thing that is holding me back at the moment is the 8600M, I just hope that there will be some sort of upgrade for that available in the future. If that's the case then I think that I'll just wait for some reviews to come out when the C90 is shipped and go from there.
