Will 8600M be able to play Oblivion comfortably? Meaning with 40+ FPS at medium settings.

Probably. Maybe when we have some actual finished products to review we'll have a better idea.

I guess at medium settings you will be get 40+fps at 1280*800 or 1440*900 pretty easily with 8600M GT..

I think we need to see the benchmarks.Since there is a new architecture, we need to establish the accuracy of 3DMark as a measure for these GPU's power.

The 8600M GT benchmarks pretty similarly to the Go 7900GS. So, you can expect similar performance to the 7900GS (although keep in mind we still don't have any real FPS measurements in games, so the resultant FPS for the 8600M GT is likely lower than the Go 7900GS).

Check out some of the Dell E1705 reviews that are floating around on the forums. The performance on those Dell E1705's running a Geforce Go 7900GS will be somewhat around the performance of the 8600M GT by 5-10 FPS.
