Hey guys, as in my other thread, my sager2090 will not boot up anymore, and calling Xotic they have narrowed it down to the gpu or the motherboard. Assuming its the gpu do you guys believe i should have the 8600gt card replaced in an out of warranty repair costing about 320ish dollars (ballparking it)? I've heard the nvidia 8600gt is a defective chip (figures its my first dedicated chip) and im wondering if replacing a defective chip with another defective chip is really the smart thing to do. However i do keep my laptop on a targus cooler, and when i opened up my laptop today there was almost no dust buildup in it so i treat it pretty well. Any thoughts?

you could buy a ATI mobility hd3650 for about $175 on ebay. slightly better performance to

Exact same thing happened with my old notebook (NP2090). I just got a new one instead of risking anything further. Everyone has said so many good things about Sager and now this emerges...

well i dont think its something wrong with the sager itself, see i think the laptop itself is pretty good and i have found nothing wrong with xotic pc, they always pick up on the first ring for me, its just something stupid like this happens... also i dont know i would rather stay away from ati since i want nvidia twinview for unbuntu.
so DTd00d you recommend just buying another computer instead of trying to repair the sager out of warranty? -
I didn't feel like going through the risk again-- it's the second time it's happened to me on that notebook and this time it's out of warranty. Everything else works fine, though. I actually put my HDD into my new notebook's spare bay. Your choice though, I can't really advise you either way.

I'd say no, don't spend the $320.
You could part out the hard drive, RAM, processor, and the chassis and then pool all that money together and get a new, better laptop for not much more.
I concur with dtd00d - the 8600M-GT is not a reliable chip, and you're risking every dollar you put into the repair of that notebook.
8600gt and sager 2090 screen blank. should i repair?
