    Question regarding Laptop videocards
    How do you see the the 511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS preforming with AoC? Would it even play, or what kind of FPS would one expect from medium-high detail. I'm asking because if this laptop could not at least play AoC smooth (as a benchmark) I'll cut back a quarter of the cost and just forget any gaming on it. Other system specs below:

    Configuration Summary

    Selected Features:

    * Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    * 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * 240GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)
    * 511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
    * Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
    * 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)

    I guess the only people who might know for Sure would be an owner of this laptop and a beta tester but I had to ask

    I am looking to get a 8600m gt or the 8700m gt and will be looking to play AoC to. I think it will play ok on directx 9, not sure on directx 10 yet. Hopefully they will have a better card out in a few months when i actually buy my notebook.
    this is off the AoC fourms.
    "The demo machines at the con run the game smoothly, and it looks gorgeous. They are running in WinXP with 2 gigs of memory, and the video card is a 7900 GTS. Any DX10 machine you have should look amazing."

    Well they pushed it back like another 6 months. Thing is I need a school laptop in two days so I can't wait for a better card. I can't afford hp's next line up either so if the above poster thinks this is good I'll buy it. If not- no point is spending the extra 500 on game functionality

    Oops, I got destroyed for posting this in the mobile card thread after I realized that forum existed and may have been more atp. Have I lowered the success potential by posting in the wrong place here?

    If you could fill out the FAQ in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" section that would help us/you out a lot.

    Well I know its between this and just a 15'' for school. The only real question was about the card to see if it was worth upgrading other specs and going all out with the HP Pavilion dv9500t Entertainment Notebook PC. I'm buying one of the two HP's depending

    if you want to be taking the laptop around campus its probably more convenient to get a smaller laptop.

    I can take an extra lb to the shoulder if it means mobile Conan. But yes, otherwise its a waste on many levels

    what is your price range? cause dell has some nice offers with the 8600gt in it. I priced one out at around 1100 or so, with the 300 coupon.

    Thanks but my parents are oldschool and if I want them to contribute anything to this it has to be HP.

    I think I'm set to buy this tomorrow, thanks everyone

    Well I'm not a beta tester, but from the above information of the 2nd post (there is no 7900GTS BTW), but a desktop 7900GTX is more powerful than the 8700M GT. That said, the 8600M GS which is the equivalent to the Go 7700 or between the desktop 7600GS and 7600GT is pretty much the target market for upcoming games so I would think it would do 1280x800 with med settings. One thing for sure though, a 8600M GS almost certainly doesn't have the power to drive a 1680x1050 screen properly at native resolution for AoC or most upcoming graphics intensive games.
