- Inspiron 1520
- 8600m GT
- Game: Team Fortress 2
I got it in December, and for a month now, it's been crashing almost every half hour, or an hour if I'm lucky. Could it be my GPU overheating? It goes up to 75-78c, and 60 idling. I changed the drivers at least 4 times and still no remedy. I'm currently using 177.39.
Whenever I use my brother's laptop fan, it still crashes. Any ideas?

75 isnt that bad.... 100 would be bad...

@acerbits.. not all nvidia cards are bad IMO..... -
I've never had any problems that most Dell/Nvidia products had: http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2008/07/25/nvidia-gpu-update-for-dell-laptop-owners.aspx
It's mainly the computer getting extremely hot, and crashing. Nothing severe. I simply shut down the game.
Would 75 decrease the life of my GPU? If it does die, can I get it replaced? How much would that cost? -
No. 75C is the temperature my 8600M GT operates at; I don't think you have anything to worry about until it gets to 90+.
If you don't have a warranty, it will quite likely cost you more than the laptop is currently worth. -
This doesn't sound like a symptom of that. At all. Have you tried re-installing the game? Your temperatures are well within the safe range. Mine hang around 84. Have you tried other games? If you don't have any other games, download Trackmania from Steam for free and see if it happens with that.

lol...
@OP.... if its really dead and u dont have warranty... u'r in luck
ur inspiron 1520's graphics card is removable.... a proprietary Dell MXM slot.... which means u can just buy the proprietary 8600 card from dell(and the price will definitely be a ripoff), or get it from ebay.. no need to change ur mobo.... -
The 8600m GT in the 1520 is not included in the list of affected GPUs
How ever what no one has pointed out is that recently there have been a string of drivers known for causing this issue. Try some other drivers before going out and ripping your card. -
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
