    8600m GT 256MB DDR2
    Acer 5920G
    Nvidia Forceware 174.82

    @ stock clocks (475/400) I get 84C after 5 minutes of playing COD4.
    @ a measly overclock (570/440) I get 94C after 5 minutes of playing COD4.

When I put my hand behind the fan, it doesn't feel like it's blowing. Is it possible that they installed the fan backwards??

Anyone else with a 5920G care to comment on the feel of air on the fan and temperatures?

Could be that your fan doesn't work or it's clogged full of dust. When's the last time you cleaned the vents?

Is your vents covered? do not play games while you are lying on bed ;)
Fans not working backwards .below 95C is safe for GPU,but make sure you have enough space to intake air form bottom of the notebook.

Is this a brand new system? That does seem way to hot (but still within "spec"). I have the GDDR3 version, which runs hotter then the DDR2, and my temps might touch 81 after a good gaming sessions. Two things I would look at first. Which driver version are you using? I have heard that the 169's run hot. Also check Acer to see if there is a bios update. Also maybe post this question on the Acer forums. It could be a common problem with that machine in particular.

i have never cleaned the vents. obviously i need to dissasemble the laptop to do so right? shouldn't be too hard. or will compressed air work just fine? I'm playing on a glass top table. the laptop has 4 little rubbers on each corner so i'm guessing it has enough from bottom to intake air. propped it up from the middle (away from the gpu) with a book and get the same temps as on the table..

Hmmm, haven't heard of to many people using 174.82's

Try 174.74, or even 175.70 (I have had great luck with those).

And like bigspin said, it is not a common problem (but that is something you should always look into when trying to diagnose). So if there is a bios update (which controlls when the fan goes on and off), do it! :)

definitely clean your vents first. drivers aren't gonna do anything but possibly make it worse quicker. clean vents are your friend.

You can get them from Laptopvideo2go . Temps that high, the drivers will probably not make that large of a change. But yes, drivers can affect temps.

Like others have said, clean the vents. I am trying to see if there is a bios update for you, but acers website is not being nice right now ;)

    Upgraded bios to 3811.
    @ Stock after 10 minutes of COD4 88C

The only noticeable difference with this bios is the fan goes up and down up and down from low to high constantly as I game, rather than a constant high (which i preferred) with 3708.

How do I clean the vent?

looked through the manual link you posted (control+f'd for clean and vent, found nothing for cleaning the vent)

also searched through the manual that came with the laptop, (no go aswell)

where is the guide that explains how to clean the vent?

I just use a can of air to clean my vents. But also the M1530's fan is easy to get to.

If you do use a can of air, be carefull with it. And how long have you had this laptop?

It's not a perminant fix but would a cooling pad at least help if nothing else does? I'm not familar with cooling platforms or mats since i have never used one.

I am having the same problem with my 5920g -6574 8600m gt 512. After about 10 minutes on COD4 on high settings, I get temps of 95c. :( My vents are clean and i have the newest bios 3811, and i prop the back of the laptop up on bottle caps. I have tried several different drivers from laptopvideo2go to no avail. The game runs great for about 15 minutes and then the fan kicks to high speed and the game gets choppy. Should i contact Acer about this, or is there something else i could try?
My laptop came with a BIOS ver 3807 which i have not been able to find even on acer's website, so that i could try the originals. Is this some kind of discontinued bios, or did i update to the wrong bios?
I thought about just using a cooling pad and letting it go since i bought the 3 year total protection. What do you all think?
