Hi, I'm getting my Acer 5920 in within the next couple days and I am just wondering a couple things about overclocking:

    1) Will overclocking make the life of my laptop less? (is it unstable to the point where it might eventually break down?)

    2) How hot will my laptop get with overclocking and is there a program that might automatically underclock my GPU as it reaches high temps (and then maybe overclock it again once it cools?) If not, what temperature is a SAFE one to stay under, not a MAXIMUM before meltdown point?

    3) What programs should I use to monitor temps and put stress on the GPU to monitor temps? As well as what program should I use to overclock? (rivatuner?)

    4) What is a good amount to overclock, to keep it at 24/7?- keeping a moderate temperature, stability, etc.

    5) Would it be better to only overclock when I use games? And if so, would it be more safe to clock higher if only used in 2-3 hour increments?

Thanks, I will appreciate any feedback or help in this thread.
Sincerely, thelaptopguy (who doesn't know very much about laptops.)

    1) Yes it can make the lifetime of your notebook shorter. When overclocking the GPU will work harder and there will be more wornage.

    2) normally the notebook shutdowns itself when it get's to hot.. normally.. safe temp is not much more than the temp generated as stack. It depends, should check per gpu but i would not go above 85/90c on fullload

    3) u can check temp with f.e. Atitool, it will display your gpu temp in the taskbar

    4) depends on your stock settings and your gpu oc ability.

    5) yes, u can make profiles u can use with games. if u have your gpu fixed on higher clocks its more usage. Better is powermanagement, it will regulate the clocks automatically when needed and at idle runs low clocks.
