After all of this malfunctioning graphics card talk from Nvidia it brought to my attention that my graphics card temps appear to be a bit ubsurd based on what I have heard is "normal". After playing a free online FPS called "Combat Arms" my temps in Fahrenheit are about 187-190 degrees after about an hour to two hours of play. I have not OCed my graphics card and the fans are running full blast. Is this normal?

That does seem a little high, usually mine gets to around 80 degrees Celsius (176 F) after playing COD4 on high settings for an hour. What driver are you using?
-
That's 87-88C... sounds a bit high, particularly if your fan is running full blast. Mine gets up to about that temperature, turns on the fan and then cools back down to about 80C.

I'm using 171.16 right now. What temperature monitoring program are you guys using? Maybe i8kfangui is now inaccurate....?
-
Try using CPUID Hardware Monitor, it works really well. Also, I'd suggest using the 175.19 driver on laptopvideo2go.com, it works really well for me. Plus, if you haven't cleaned you laptop in 3 months or more, I'd suggest opening the bottom panels and blowing out the inside, especially the fan and the vents. The more airflow the better. And if you want, you can download GPU-Z just to check and see if your GPU isn't overclocked.
-
The CPUID temps seem to generally agree with my i8kfangui temps, I have installed the 175.19 drivers and will soon play with them after I reboot. Also, GPUID says that my card is stock! So......I guess I don't know why my temps are so high. Anyone have any kind of idea or something to try? Will these eventually screw me over in the long run?
-
The higher the temperature, the less time your computer has before it craps out. If cleaning the inside of your computer with compressed air doesn't work, then the only other thing i can think of is to chat with a Dell representative online...don't call them.
-
So you would agree that the temperatures while gaming (180-190 F) are too high and could possibly affect my computers lifespan?
-
Visit the NBR Cooling Central.
If your temps are high, make sure that:
- you are NOT using the system on a soft surface (lap, couch, bed, etc..) since you would be blocking the vents from getting airflow
- this notebook MUST be used on ONLY clean, hard, flat surfaces (preferably a good notebook cooler, like Zalman ZM-NC1000 or NC2000)
- make sure your vents are clean of dust (use a flashlight to check)
If the temps are still high, it could be a loose heatsink or malfunctioning fan. -
-
Well no, but I want it to not melt the graphics card and take the processor with it.......i8kfangui just reported 198 F after about an hours worth again of playing that same game. This is getting kind of rediculous, I just told my dad about it I think i might try and contact dell and see what the deal is.

I regularly hit that sort of temp. whilst gaming. It only peaks at 92C, the drops a little to an average of 86C. Do bear in mind I'm okay with this as I have a small notebook (14.1" widescreen) so I expect it to get warmer than a bigger notebook. I would definately contact Dell as from what I've seen that is a bit warm for the averge XPS1530.

I called Dell, they are going to replace my motherboard and my graphics card as the temps I described are simply WAY too hot. Hopefully all goes well!
-
My max while playing vanguard: Soh for a few hours was 85 celcius.
But somehting under my left hand gets super hot, unbearably even.
Perhaps my ram? -
1. Make sure all the vents under laptop have access to clean air, keep it on a flat surface or use dvd cases to raise the height while NOT covering any vent holes.
2. Try and measure room temperature.
3. Also mention the software you are using to monitor. This has caused a lot of confusion in my case as CPUIDHWMONITOR reports my GPU temp as 12C hotter than TPFANCONTROL... possibly because they'r reading from diff sensors. -
-
Are there any ways to make the fan kick in sooner? -
I hit 206 F last night.........*Make that 217 F after about 20 minutes of gaming* I'm not doing anything strenuous on this thing until the tech comes I guess. I don't want to burn my frigan house down.
8600m GT temps?
