What are you going to use the Hd-DVD drive for anyway? I think that you should get the graphics card....and mabye when prices go down, get an external Hd-DVD drive, because technically external drives work better than the internal ones in laptops... :)

Oh gosh, get the graphics card. Unless you plan on actually USING that HD-DVD drive, what on earth is the point in getting it? I don't burn data disks very often (I prefer to use USB key drives and Network storage), so they lose that sort of usefulness. I also don't want to watch movies on my Laptop, especially if they are in High Definition. I'd prefer to watch such movies on an actual HDTV screen in a home theatre setting.

Then again, if you are not much of a gamer (and don't mind lower FPS), you might as well get the newer drive. Maybe you'll find yourself wanting to play HD-DVDs on your computer while hooked up to your theatre system?

Its about what YOU will be doing with it. If you want better performance in games, get the graphics card. If you want to watch HD-DVD movies, get the HD-DVD drive.

I'd rather get the external drive with my XBOX 360, but that is just my opinion.

Depends on what you're going to use it for. If you're going to watch a lot of HD-DVD movies, then fine, go with the GS.

But if you want more gaming power, then go for the GT. The GS can be overclocked fairly easily apparently to match the 8600 GT performance, but then again, you can O/C the 8600m GT DDR2 to well overexceed 8600m GT GDDR3 performance.

As bestbuyer states, you can always get an external HD-DVD drive, and sometime soon probably swap out your DVD drive for an HD-DVD drive for relatively inexpesive (less than $200) if you decide you need it.

Yep, i agree with htwingnut. You can't swap your gpu but you can swap or replace your optical drive.
