Ok i know there has been a thread started about this before. But im looking for some specific answers. Questions that most people want answered in one simple response.

I own a dell inspiron 1520 with vista. 2.2ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, and the 8600m gt with 256mb memory.

I want to know information about overclocking. What problems do i have to work around owning a notebook, using vista, and with the graphics card? What program should i use to overclock it? I tried ati tool but it didnt register my card.

If anyone can direct me to a specific guide or give me some advice here thatd be great.

hi me too i have a question as well...

If i get a 8600m gt. How long will it last before it becomes outdated?

Or will it be able to play the whole stash of directx 10 games before directx 11 comes out?

First of all, you need a driver that'll work for driver overclocking.

Once you've found and obtained one (go to www.laptopvideo2go.com to find one), get RivaTuner. It should be able to get your GPU clock settings and allow you to change it.

Lastly, MONITOR YOUR TEMP. You do NOT want the GPU to overheat your notebook!
Define "outdated"? A new mobile graphics chipset should be out in around 3 months or so that'll outclass the 8600M GT.

That said, it should be able to play quite a few games at reasonable resolutions (1024x640, for example) at Medium settings (older games you can definitely hit "High" settings at this resolution) for at least a year or so.
