Still boils down to bandwidth. Textures and a few other things are probably the only things benefitting from the additional RAM.

and the ATIs 2600's will have also 128 bandwith or 256?
-
Alright, that sounds a lot more reasonable. Maybe the earlier review (w/ 18 FPS) was just having some hardware difficulties or something.
-
those benchmarks sound alot more like it
-
Out of curiosity how does the 7700 do at those settings?
-
128
A ton more stream processors though, if that makes any difference... -
More, but more limited shaders.
-
There's not much in the way of information about what detail settings each test used, unless I missed something in the Trusted Reviews review (and I don't read German...). That can make for quite a large difference.
-
Can I just say, that if this was true it would be really poor form. A graphics card released that is not made specifically to cater to games NOW, only potential future games? That sounds ridiculous. Future-proofing is good, but not at the expense of the present, since that's where people and games live.

What are the newest drivers for the 8600M GT? and where can I get them? I did a google search for them and the only thing I could find were these...
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-ForeWare-GeForce-Go-10117-WHQL.shtml
The drivers at the ASUS site say their from 5/17 and these say from 5/28, so I would assume these are newer? or does the card come with newer drivers already? I wont be getting it until friday but I want to be running the newest drivers and everything to get the most out of it. -
You could always go to laptopvideo2go and get a modified inf file and use the latest desktop drivers with your card.
-
I don't know nearly as much about benchmarking scores and things of the like. That said, will an 8600M GT 512mb play Oblivion and other graphics intensive games smoothly at max settings given adequate supporting hardware? If not, what would be a better option at this point?
-
From what I've read, I don't believe it will. And I think you'd need at least a 7950 or to wait for the forthcoming enthusiast 8xxx cards for anything like max settings on Oblivion in a notebook. Max settings in a hugely graphically-demanding game... desktop anyone?
-
Well, yeah, but having said that, it should be able to handle Oblivion on something less than max settings though.
-
Ah, the other part of what my post SHOULD have been was brought to you today by zadillo.
-
I wish these sources would complement their benchmarks with some screenshots from the actual game.
-
Anyone got an update on the benchmarks for these games on their G1S or something? I'm a huuuge fan of Half-Life 2 and CSS.
-
yeah ie got the 512 gddr2 version and i can run oblivion on max at 1024 res with 2x aa. it also runs call of duty 2 and prey alot better than the original post. It also runs bioshock and stranglehold max at about 35-50 fps average.
and this is the ddr2 version! im using the 158.4 version drivers and have OC the card to 550/450 (the temps never get higher than 70). -
Can explain how the bandwidth limit is reached in the case in point?
128 bits at 22.4Gbps bandwidth is as much memory bandwidth as in the data specs of a XBOX 360...
Also Nvidia claims 8x00m parallel architecture is completely different from the pipeline architecture in 7x00 series.
-
That's great 35-50 fps!!!
What's the resolution, settings?
Guess 158.4 is the best optimized driver so far...
I am using 163.67 and the fps is really low on even 3D point-n-click game like Broken-Sword - Angels of Death...
-
yeah im running bioshock at 1024 res MAXED OUT and am geting average 30-60fps (can run it on 1280x800 but only get 30fps average)
I have hacked the Stranglehold demo to run at 1280x800 and its runs on max at about 25-40 fps.
